It's the other side which is the concern.

The rapidity of the helicopter evac is extremely worrying. About as worried as i can be about what the hospital is going to announce.

Only reasons to evac this fast are isolated severe head injury, severe hemorrhagic shock, or need for ongoing CPR.

Keeping tabs on what he has to say for the simple reason that, a couple of years ago, this would have been his job.

According to Ted Kravitz, the helicopter was never actually at the track today.

Now post a picture of the side that hit the tractor.*

*Obviously I don't actually want you to, but there's only side of the car that took a hit.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I remember discussing with kals a few years ago that, if we ever see something bad in F1 again, it would likely not originate from a big crash, but rather because of people or objects on the track being hit.

I thought one of the things that Sid Watkins introduced decades ago was the rule that no track activity could take place without a medical helicopter present.

If chopper can't fly Race will be stopped. One of the requirements for holding an F1 race.

Now Matteo Bonciani says Helicopter couldn't take off and he has to go by Ambulance! Race should have never started.

not sure i agree. if the crash doesnt happen then everybody is glad the race wasnt cancelled

There will be some serious talk with race officials and FIA officials for allowing them to race at the first place.

...Ten seconds after I post that, he gets told off for speculating by Sarah Holt. I'd still say it's at least 50% professional opinion.

Yes, that's right, they can't even hold track activity if the helicopter is there but can't take off (fog etc.).

Not entirely true, in Teds Sky Sports Notebook yesterday he said that if the helicopter can't fly and the FIA expect it. They can prior arrange an Ambulance with full police escort.

Just quoting this RE the helicopter not being present.

And I'm pretty sure it was still a requirement up to a year or so ago with how the FIA grade circuits. Maybe they made an exception for this race. Who knows?

I didn't catch the full bit he was doing but he was standing in front of the medical center and gestured to the empty spot where the chopper would have been had it been there in the first place and that it had been replaced by a police escorted ambulance to a local hospital.
