I Did lol at the notion of 2012 being a good Ferrari.

Do we not remember what a crisis that team were in at the beginning of the 2012 season? How the Malaysia victory was a complete surprise due to wet conditions and how the Italian media were already calling for heads to roll due to the relative poor performance of the car.

Alonso did a good job capitalising on various circumstances in 2012 (tyres, wet races, etc) but the Ferrari itself was no where near the red bull in out and out pace.

I stopped reading after "For the past five seasons he has been lumbered with machinery which was unable to go around a corner as fast as a Red Bull."

The 2010 and especially the 2012 Ferrari was a good car.

Indeed, they were.

But neither car was as aerodynamically strong as a Red Bull. The RB6 was a bullet. Both the F10 and F2012 had their strong points, but my statement is correct! ;)

Well, to be fair I did read the whole story in the end. And I have to say that your point of view is very respectable for majority of the drivers mentioned. I can agree with that.

PS: Why did you delete your opinion about 2012 Ferrari/Alonso? That was also well stated opinion. There was various reasons indeed that cost the title but on the opposite side, Vettel and RB got through a lot of bad luck and got the better of it.

It was a good car, only Alonso thought it was "the worst he's ever driven" and that's what he kept saying after a good or a bad race, no matter what. Ultimately he lost the title in Suzuka due his own mistake and due Vettel's out of this world drive in Brazil.

I just thought that 2012 Alonso-Vettel has already been debated loads of times & I was adding nothing new.

The one car that was "good" is the champ winning car. The rest is garbage.

If Fernando was lumbered with those cars, then what does that mean for every other driver and team on the grid?

It weren't complete trucks (although one of those Ferrari's did carry the name of a Ford pick-up, didn't it?) but the RB was a whole lot better and especially in 2012 the McLaren was faster as well, probably in 2010 and 2011 as well.

a car that wins back to back both in Monza and Singapore, both so different in configuration, is hardly a bad car.

I agree, but I believe both the RB as well as the McLaren (not by much) were better.

Tobias is referring to 2010, when Alonso leapt into the title battles with back to back wins which coincided with disasters for championship leader Hamilton. At that stage of the season the Ferrari was marginally better than the McLaren. In 2012 the Ferrari suited colder conditions in the early season.

@pitlanetalk (1/2) We have confirmation from a respectable Italian journalist, who, like us, also knows that Alonso signed with McLaren last week. #F1

@pitlanetalk (2/2) The announcement however might be delayed until November when Ferrari can sort their line-up as well. #F1 #Formula1

Hulkenberg please.

There is no driver on the grid who is more deserving of a good car.

A shame he'll get a Ferrari then?

According to SuomiF1.com, Leo Turrini has said that Alonso will leave Ferrari. He's the same Italian reporter who was first to report Stefano Domenicali's departure.

if Autosport reports it, I'll believe it. What a quick way for everything to spiral out of control.

Marchionne might be calling Hulk and Bottas to offer their usual shitload of money

Ferrari also resent for Kubica, he would be the driver if it wasn't that crash

I assume Alonso signed with Honda this weekend thus opening his seat.
