For discussions sake, lets say he doesn't get the McLaren seat. Where does that leave?

RBR - Full
Mercedes - Full
Williams - well, maybe, but Frank won't pay big money
Force India - Full
STR - just no
Lotus - it's been linked before, but given the engines they just announced, maybe?
Marussia - no
Sauber - no
Caterham - probably won't be here, but still a no

It probably won't be a sabbatical so the only real option is McLaren. But indeed, what else?

I doubt he'll take the huge gamble with Lotus. So there's nothing left, other than Hamilton losing the title after which he goes bananas and signs with McLaren (which some media claimed has already happened).

Or, even less likely, Hamilton signs with Ferrari so it's a battle between Alonso and Vettel for the Mercedes seat. Or perhaps both with the Germans? Or both with McLaren? :8:

But nah, Vettel to Ferrari and Alonso to McLaren. But who will leave at McLaren?

According to Scottys list, Hulk and Perez are confirmed.

But then again, it currently has Vettel as confirmed at RBR. :p

If you mean the one in the first post, 12 have (C) behind their name and looked certain, only 5 of that are still certain at this moment :p

But (C) just means they are in contract, so we can't read too much into that. It does seem that Button's contract sagas have led to teams being a little more willing to let drivers go, with conditions.

I assume Perez wil stay too, unless he can bring his Telmex money to a bigger team. With the Mexican GP ahead I assume Force India might try to get some more money out of his sponsors.

Maybe Forza Rossa is behind the Caterham buyout. If they don't show up it sucks. I want more teams and if they don't show up the FIA will be even more reluctant to allow new teams in.

Imho, the less teams the better as it will push for 3 cars per team, ie, more quality seats available.

Diversity is great and etc but I much prefer a third Mercedes, RB, Ferrari.... car than Caterhams and Marussias

I think Maldonado has been confirmed quite some time ago, Omega. As preposterous as that would be, I can see the reason why with PDVSA's huge money behind it. What I can't fathom is how mediocre Felipe Massa still have a seat in F1. Are Brazilian sponsors throwing that much money at Williams?!

Since when does Mediocre achieve Pole position at the Austrian GP? He also managed a podium at Italy too...

I will agree that he's not had as many points finish this year as I anticipated, but I still think hes a contributing member of the team. I think most people see his team mate & compare their results side by side, without realising some racing he couldn't finish due to other factors...

Maldonardo & Raikkonen are probably more closer to mediocre....

Red Bull Ring was more a sort of one off, tbh. His usual qualifying deficit to Bottas is what, 4 tenths or so?
I'm not even looking at points as he had some DNF that were not his fault. But this guy simply doesn't have the speed it takes to be in such a good car, imho.

But yes, Kimi has been even worse this season. Maldonado is idiotic and makes usual silly mistakes but that doesn't matter much to me as long as Lotus seat remains quite useless given the car's speed. :p

- Earns a 'one-off' pole, that happens to be the sole non-Mercedes pole so far this year.
- Admittedly less finishes and more mechanical issues than team mate.
- Team regularly singing his praises about his useful technical feedback, professional attitude and team spirit.
- Firm contract for next year

- 'Simply does not have what it takes to be in such a good car'.

Someone get on the phone to Grove; Artur 'Expert F1 Form Pundit' Craft has a few things to discuss...

the main problem with Massa is that he doesn't have that motivation to catch places. at Sochi he was right behind Rosberg and while Nico got places to finish 2nd, Massa quickly degrated his tires behind slower cars because he didn't risked more
