Lotus is still trying to get high sponsors with their drivers. Alonso could have his wages payed by Santander

Is Santander still F1 minded with the death of the old CEO?

dunno, but I guess they'll not leave Ferrari because is still the most known team despite the lack of good results

I recall Hulkenburg stating his had several meetings with Ferrari - he made this comment last season. He would surely be on the shopping list as a replacement.

But you'd have to imagine with Alonso moving from Ferrari - which team would be go to if he stays in F1... Someone will have to make way for him?

At this stage of his career. ... fernando has to be thinking of moving to a somewhat competitive team.
He hasn't got the years left to do a m.s. 1996....

Sorry Lotus.

This silly season would really explode if Alonso does leave and the teams will field 3 cars.

I've believed in this for about a year now.

Co-incidences?

Kimi has 2+1 deal with the Ferrari, while Alonso has two years with McLaren-Honda constantly giving him the green light to join them. Alonso is the one who leaves Maranello by the end of the year, judging by his own antics he's been using since the last summer.

For me the Alonso's and his manager's constant walk around the motorhomes year ago and this season have been key indicators to tell that he's looking around his options to leave Ferrari. There was no good choice for 2014, so he stayed. Now with Honda coming back, he's getting the money he's been looking for. Honda gave Alonso the offer and after that Alonso asked Ferrari for a 30M$/season for three year contract. Since Ferrari didn't want to pay that, he signed with Honda.

Also, round the time of Belgian GP 2013, Vettel said something like "it would be great to have Kimi as a team mate" and after the Italian GP 2013 he changed it a bit and said "would have been nice to have him as a team mate, but it's not going to happen next year." This year Vettel's performance has been poor. Maybe he signed an option with Ferrari last year already?

Few key figures came to Ferrari from Lotus around the same time with Kimi and this year Domenicali, that engine team chief and Montezemolo have left the team. That's quite aggressive changes that Ferrari is doing, just like around 1996 season. Maybe next year Ferrari is a winning car again in hands of Räikkönen, Vettel and Bianchi (in 3rd car)?

This is my speculations of what might be going on around the Scuderia Ferrari, but I think there might be a good ground on this to happen. If third cars will be adapted next year, Ferrari is going to have one of the strongest, if not THE strongest line-up of the grid. If they get the car right, they might be able to fight for the titles too.

Ferrari will not suddenly close the deficit to Mercedes in 2015. It isn't going to happen. Even 2016 might be optimistic.

So Honda is a gamble. But will McLaren-Honda be competitive in 2015? Possible, but unlikely.

My personal view is that it'll be a case of better the devil you know for Alonso.

Dutch site f1today.nl says that according to Adam Cooper it isn't Vettel but Hamilton who might leave to Maranello.

What a lovely silly season this is. 8)

Pfft you know rumours at this time of year always come off.

I am enjoying Kimi's Vettel-outshining performances in the Red Bull this year tbh

It's been a while since we last had a Montoya or Hakkinen or Mansell returning to F1 rumour. So I'm starting one now.

more likely to see Barrichello offering his skills to be a reserve driver because he refuses to go away

I've tried to make sense of what might happen, using some sources and some conjecture!

I stopped reading after "For the past five seasons he has been lumbered with machinery which was unable to go around a corner as fast as a Red Bull."

The 2010 and especially the 2012 Ferrari was a good car. Alonso was in a strong 50 points lead and still lost the title due his clumsy mistakes in the final races. He's leaving for a fatter paycheck. End of story.

Indeed, they were.

But neither car was as aerodynamically strong as a Red Bull. The RB6 was a bullet. Both the F10 and F2012 had their strong points, but my statement is correct! ;)
