So let me just start it with the opening post from last year's race, which is incredibly fitting:

I love Monaco for the spectacle and the vibe of the weekend in general even-though the chances of it being a lackluster race is generally higher than most. This year will hopefully lead to some cracking onboards with the guys fighting the opposite lock out of the slow corners and generally being a little more unstable than previously so.

Can't see Merc not walking away again, their "FRIC" is damn good and I reckon they have the best chassis out there but happy to be proven wrong at the hands of a certain Mr Ricciardo ;).

Pastor to crash a few times over the weekend.

Monaco is the highlights of the season in terms of atmosphere even though it may not be and probably won't be the best race of the season. It feels special and it's the most difficult track in calendar today.

Since it's impossible to overtake at Monaco, only crashes can stir up the race. Luckily, given how difficult this year's cars are to handle, one would anticipate many small mistakes by drivers which will easily end up them crashing. So I'd believe there's going to be at least some surprises. Nevertheless either of the Mercedes cars will win, no doubt about that.

It is possible to overtake at Monaco:
- If the guy in front is struggling with tyres
- If you go balls out at the hairpin. Ever since the curb has been pussyfied, it really is an invitation to divebomb and muscle your way through. No, wait. You get a penalty for that, forget it.

Anyway, I'm just hoping for some crazy trains like only Monaco can provide. Those packs where anything can happen at the blink of an eye, you know, cars inches from each other, drivers all over the place peeking left and right...

This was the race for the lead just a few years ago. F1 doesn't get more awesome than this IMHO:

Perez did not overtake a single car last year, remember. Neither did Kimi. It's absolutely no way anyone can pass even a Fiat 500 at this track.

I just have a personal preference for stuff like this, over a more spreadout field where there are a few good fights that end up quickly in a successful pass and the fastest car escaping in the distance. ;)

Remember, it's not the actual pass that is interesting. It's the build up to it, it's the "what if", the wondering if he's going to lose his nerves and try something stupid, heck even the mishaps are fun.

From the top of my head though:

Panis passed Irvine in 1996
Irvine Passed Frentzen in 1998
Schumacher passed Wurz in 1998
Trulli passed Fisichella in 2006
Hamilton passed Maldonado in 2011
Bernoldi passed Massa in 2002
Hamilton passed Massa in 2011
Fisichella in a Renault passed someone at the chicane

Yes, it often ends in tears. Yes, all the passes but one in the above list ended with immediate or subsequent damage to at least one of the cars. It's part of the fun! :lol:

The Williams pair in 2005 produced some good action too. Watching them getting frustrated is definitely half the fun.

Given the mare of a weekend that Grosjean had last year, and the fact that Crashtor is in the other car, I can't see many at the Lotus factory being very excited for this one ...

Monaco and its atmosphere is awesome on Thursday and perhaps during Saturday qlf, but after that it gets kind of boring.

And this year it will be even worse. Rexxfest plz

Made contact twice which led to Wurz's car failing and having a big accident. 10 race ban.

In all seriousness, overtakes at Monaco are a little more special, and I hope the stewards have enough common sense to realise that there will often be a little contact if it happens.

Yeah, but that was clearly an artificially-assisted one, so it doesn't count.

if someone play a Mansell vs Senna in 1992 it could be interesting. If Alonso gets to the lead perhaps against a wild Hamilton with fresh tires

Surprise reverse grid, with special full-distance Pirelli tyres IMHO.

Used to do it in videogames where you can set the grid, put Minardi on pole and the faster guys behind. Hilarity ensued.
