It's true. The only way to guarantee great racing is to have faster cars behind slower cars.

Shall well all demand the fia remove kers, drs and stop dicking about with the tyres and just impliment reverse grid races for 2015 then? :p

Seriously though, at some point this season a merc will have to start lower down the order due to tech issues/penalties/wet qualifying etc. That race will be amazing too.

The Mercs will be at the front in no time though. But I've always wanted to see a championship that has no qualifying, but just lets the races start in reverse championship order every race. That would deliver amazing races I think.

I think it's downright frightening them being 2s per lap faster than everyone whilst battling each other.

If they'd both had their heads down and had settled in their positions, we might have seen a 2.5 or 3s per lap difference.

No offence to the Force India's that were 3rd and 4th for the majority of the end of the race, but the FI isn't the 2nd fastest car outright. That sort of exacerbated the gap big time. They were saving tyres, and may have been saving fuel.

I do believe on most tracks it would be a 0.75-1 sec a lap advantage they have at the moment, over the 2nd fastest car, the Red Bull (remember when James Allen (?) said Red Bull would be the 8th best team this year?). At the moment, it's horsepower that's getting them there. I just hope Renault and Ferrari are able to close the power car between units.

You're correct that the FIs aren't second best car, but they traditionally do very well at Bahrain. di Resta got 6th and 4th last couple of years I think. So they were rather fast. But yeah you're right.

Barring mechanical failures or the Pastor factor, I can't see them being beat anywhere without some sort of rule change to help Ferrari.

Their straight line speed was immense. Just looking at qualifying they were 1-2 on speed trap speeds. Even when the cars behind them had DRS they comfortably held them off. That speed on the 3 straights clearly helped them immensely. Early money on them to win at Monza?

Oddly they seem to struggle at Monza. But Hulk at Spa might be a nice idea. They're traditionally strong there.

Have they had the same designer for the last few years? They do always seem to turn out a very slippery car. Also, didn't Fisi do very well at Monza before running into trouble one year?

Kinda reminds me of Ligier always having a car that was mediocre at all tracks apart from Magny Cours, although obviously for very different reasons.

They've had Andrew Green for the last few years.

You must be thinking of 2008 - I think Fisichella made Q2 but then shunted fairly early. In 2009 Liuzzi was in the mix for a podium until the car broke.

Sutil was 4th in 2009 at Monza IIRC.

Also spa 2009 when only KERS and a FIA-RARRI LULZ!!!! run down the tarmac runoff prevented Fishy winning Spa.

It's nice to watch this race with the hindsight of knowing Nico had put himself into a higher engine mode, against Merc team orders, and still couldn't beat Lewis

One of the most underrated races of all time imo

And you know, flipperz...

That was a pretty impressive qualifying performance by Nico. Beating Lewis by a 3 tenths, don't see that too often. Starting to sow the seeds for making all the Lewis fanboys salty all the way through to the end of 2016 lol.
