I don't think it's that crazy that there hasn't been a wet race. Especially considering that much of Europe had a heatwave this summer. Just luck of the weather really.

I think with really wet weather, people overreact now. Recently there's been a lot of races with proper deluges; it's probably gone too far and I wonder how much of that is down to Pirelli's wet weather tyre, but Monaco 1984 & Australia 1991 were red flagged prematurely. It's not a new phenomenon.

The thing about Monaco 1984 and Adelaide 1991 is that the races were red-flagged only when it was deemed that drivers could no longer hold the racetrack at the lowest speed possible.

At Montreal in 2011 Jean-Eric Vergne drove through the entire thunderstorm on intermediates. He was fine.

I still can see in a near future FIA demanding to start monaco gp under SC because "is just too tight for a standing start" and then several races will be this way until standing starts no longer used in F1

The thunderstorm wouldn't have lasted 70 laps.

The point is that the whole of the track was still safe enough to navigate provided they went slowly enough at the most dangerous parts. It wasn't like Nurby 07 where there was a literal flood at one corner.

Monsoon season has just started this week. We've just had two rain storms in less than 24 hours. Hopefully this is good news for Brazil GP!

It was one of the STRs, I'm sure of that. The point is that he was going around behind the safety car on intermediate tyres and not finding the car uncontrollable, which is in contrast to Adelaide 1991 where they had monsoon tyres and were still crashing at low speeds.

I understand them throwing the red at Montreal because of the lightning and needing to wait for that to pass, but with normal constant rain it is much better to, if possible, have the cars circulate and throw the water off the racing line.

One idea I would like to see them try is, if a particular corner or corners are very wet and have puddles, but the rest of the track is not that bad, then the marshals should be allowed to cover the corner with double waved yellows, guaranteeing an appropriate speed for that section of the track.

Double-waved yellows? Oh yes, those coloured pieces of cloth most drivers tend to ignore. That'll slow 'em down for sure!

I believe the biggest danger in the rain doesn't come from the risk of flying off the track, rather from collisions and visibility. Racing in a pack become dangerous way before reaching that point like Adelaide 91/94 where cars are undriveable at slow speed.
There was an F3000 race at Hockenheim somewhere in the mid-90s where the track was driveable, but due to the spray and trees keeping fog there was a near-disaster in the first forest staightaway.

Personally I'd rather have them be on the slightly unsafe side instead of being conservative, but that's my general opinion about motor racing and I get that not everyone will share it.

Part of the problem is that TV cameras are so good now that they can make the situation look better than it is in reality. In recent races red flagged, they've needed to clear huge puddles to get going. At that point, it isn't racing any more. But I agree that resuming races has taken too long.

Track wet atm. Dunno if there will be many laps today. On th other hand they should practice for wet qlf and race.
