It did look as if Bottas (not 100% sure it was him though) was letting Kimi through before the hairpin by moving rapidly to the inside.

While I was happy to see Rosberg win the race.. I thought that F1 was ridiculously stupid with how they handled that first SC.. stopping cars, then letting them by, etc.

yeah, compared to the excellent job the marshalls are doing, that was rather amateuristic

And that coupled with Mercedes daft idea of waiting to the last possible minute (and over a lap after Vettel) to pit both cars cost them a one two finish.

The joke has to stop, watching them just cruise around 6/7 seconds off the pace is just pathetic. Its becoming painful.

You're in the wrong thread, this is the Monaco race thread. Not Barcelona.

Or am I imagining I saw hard racing and overtaking today?

Apparently, he is right for the first like 20 laps. After that, i'm fully with you.

After the pit stops everyone was running slower! Worse than Barcelona imo, nothing really changed the rest of the race. I do appreciate some of the overtaking that went on today, but the general race was still very poor.

It's Monaco, most of the time you're stuck going as fast as the person in front.

I don't think that's the case. But even so its not about number of passes its about how the cars are getting around the track.

And today the cars were hustling each other from flag to flag. Just because they are 6 seconds slower than quali doesn't mean they are not pushing. Did you ever watch F1 before the 2000's?

Van de Garde had the fastest lap for a couple of laps before the first round of pit stops, which might indicate that the top runners weren't exactly pushing extremely hard. Also, listening to the radio messages about how the drivers were told to increase their lap times by .3 to .7 per lap further shows that they were far from the limit. Still infinitely better than what we saw in Barcelona though

Driving 1 second slower than the car is possible, is easy for an f1 driver, nevermind 5+ seconds. Just listen to the race and the drivers and what there saying.

Do you remember one single thing that happened in the Monaco race in 2012?

Quote:
"We were just saving tyres, says Webber"

After claiming victory from pole position on the streets of Monte-Carlo last year, Mark Webber this time had to settle for the final step of the podium. The Red Bull driver, who started on the second row, says he was simply saving tyres and "waiting for the chequered flag", with the famed streets providing little opportunities to overtake.

"Congratulations to Nico," Webber began, "this is a very special place to win. He had a seamless weekend and you need to do that here. For us, we knew it was a little bit against us starting from the second row. I got an amazing start, sods law that here it is the shortest run. We’ll try and save some of those starts for future reference.

"Then it was basically saving tyres. All the drivers were nursing their cars. It was nice to get Lewis [Hamilton], never nice to lose out in the stops, but we’ll take that position. In general, it was just driving around, saving tyres and waiting for the chequered flag."

Webber currently occupies fifth position in the title battle on a total of 57 points, 50 [two Grand Prix victories] adrift of team-mate and reigning World Champion Vettel.

Further indication that at least some of the drivers weren't pushing at all today.
