unlike South Korea, I like the fact that buildings are starting to emerge track wise. Does so much to improve anotherwise 'remote' atmosphere.

I think the track surroundings look hideous and the smog exacerbates this.

But since 2009 the races have all been very good. It seems to open itself up to some cracking racing.

Oh, and it's probably Mercedes's best chance of a win.

Also, I'm fairly sure Ma Qing Hua was pencilled in to run FP1 in place of Giedo but in Caterham's preview there was no mention of it. I guess they'll confirm that on Wednesday or Thursday.

But there's been plenty of overtaking going into T1 in past years, so I don't see how the introduction of DRS will make it any more interesting.

Depends if you count that last kink as a corner.
Yes, it's probably not flat out, but I don't think it will be difficult to follow the car in front given the corner is not too "long".

DRS on the start straght might not be too bad, May actually see DRS work like its supposed to and offer an opportunity rather than produce a free pass.
Still think they should remove it from the long straght, Done nothing but made passing there too easy the last 2 years.


Thats been one of my biggest issues with DRS since 2011, Why put it on long straights where we saw good racing & a decent level of overtaking anyway. You see DRS put in these places & then everyone wonders why passing is suddenly made too easy in the DRS zone.

If the detection points & zones were placed more sensibly & if DRS worked like it was supposed to & simply helped cars get alongside providing them an opportunity to try & overtake the car ahead rather than simply driving the car behind clean by with relative ease, I'd be less critical of the damn thing even if I'll never think of it as anything other than a stupidly artificial gimmick

I drive by the circuit every other week, it is right by a series of freeways, the land it was built on is was flat small rice farming blocks, at this time of year the pollution is probably at its worst, and they have litteraly built a town nearby as a result of the race.

Despite what it may look like (or you can`t see because of the smog) it is only about 30-40 minutes drive from downtown Shanghai (depending on traffic of course-the road leading there is pretty shit) . It is not miles away as one might think.

But the terrain around it is flat, boring and quite uninspiring. I was just at the main airport last night after a flight from Australia, and I saw 1 smallish sign advertising the race at the airport, tucked away behind a pillar. The signage to the track is almost non existant. That is this race's problem. The promotion sucks big time. There is almost no promotion to speak of, and those that attend the race are the hardcore supporters of F1. Despite what people may say they problem is not the price of the tickets but rather the lack of promotion, people just don't know its on.

When I attendet in 2009, i'd gess about three quarters of all visitors were non asian (looking).
