Thread is going to be 3 pages of news stories from the local papers and their anti-F1 agendas before we get near any competitive action. Ho hum, i'm sure we'll weather the storm.

I'll just ask how are all the support races shaping up? Is everything racing there that you'd expect?
Supercars? Utes? Aussie Racing Cars? GT race? :?

Oz GP will probably be the best race of 2013. Anyway I can't wait for this one. :)

Or maybe Korea will surprise us. :p

March 14 to 17 sounds right to me, otherwise I have made a HUGE mistake when booking flights.

Anyone knows if they will add/remove run off areas around the rack.

What I think we might see is tyre barriers like they were in 1996, green, black and white, as Rolex is now sponsoring the GP, that would be nice to change a bit the usual pattern.

Scotty, any news about the track? Kerb colors, tyre barriers colors? Only 3 weeks until the first free practice! :)

Speed limit is 40km/h the whole way around. It's actually just a boring slow avenue around a lake 10 months a year then a construction site for 6 weeks!
Besides the race track area, what else there is in the park? I mean, places to walk around, camping area, stuff like this. Any good place to eat over there?

When I worked in Melbourne for a bit, the office I was in was right next to the park, so I used to have lunch there most days, but from what I've heard is that before the F1 race went there it was a pretty shit place

In a nut shell yes. Some of the buildings were already there (Powerhouse) but it wasn`t as nice as it is now. The golf course was always nice, but the park had a slightly tired feeling to it before the GP came along. The lake area also wasn`t as developed around the edges as it is today.

I remember going there with my family in the early 90s, and it was a place that you thought was nice, but not internationl nice. The main opposition came from people who live in the surrounding area. Albert Park always was, and still is a more exclusive, slightly snobbish leafy area of Melbourne.

It is very picturesque, the area behind turns 6 through 13-14 there is a nice golf course, it's a great park during the year, there is a sports stadium at turn 3 that I used to play national volleyball tournaments in. It's a well maintained park, hence why there is a lot of people who protest the grand prix being there.

The place is bloody boring, I was really disappointed. I was hoping to drop my girlfriend in the park and do some laps, but I took her with me because we couldn't find a nice place.

Funny though how, except for the pit-building, absolutely nothing reminds you that there is an F1 race each year.

I can't comment as I was born in 1990, and never even visit the Albert Park precinct until after 2000 or so.

I was at the track today, as I mentioned, I went from turn 5 (car park) backwards onto the circuit through to the main straight then back to turn 14, turns 6-13 were closed. The tyre barriers haven't changed colours (green white and yellow), the gravel was still being set up in most placed, but none had been changed to tarmac. Still nothing against the pitstall of the 2nd Force India car, Razia's name was still up though

Thanks for the informations man! I really can't wait for the GP weekend to come. Australia is such a great place for F1 races. I really miss the Adelaide days, some really unpredictable races over there, great action in a track that in my opinion is the best street track in the world. How perfect it would be if Melbourne oppened the calendar with Adelaide closing it.

Visited the Grand Prix in 2011 as part of my vacation to Australia and Asia. Arrived few days before the GP and wondered around a bit. It is a nice place, the overall atmosphere is nice but not racy. It seems to be a day out for whole the family. Quite nice, altough I was there alone (and later on with a friend working in Melbourne).

He'll burn that contract 2 years in because he wants more money to support his daughters lifestyles.
