That's awesome but I hope someone protests Ferrari for running illegal in season testing.

And yes, I'm making a joke about the testing.

It's an F2010, anyway. :p

Maybe they were trying to make a point...

This might be the only time I got to do this, but when I interviewed Paul Hembrey at the Autosport show (yes, really!) I got the impression the FIA even then were hanging out on a deal. He said Pirelli would like conformation before the start of the season about what the tyres were going to be like for 2014.
Now we've got to June and not only have we not got that conformation but they don't even know if they're making the tyres for next year at all.
This despite them publicly (and pointedly) stating their lead time for manufacturing next year's tyres.

No, I sense they're already out even if they don't know it. Perhaps there's a Todt game afoot and he's already lined up someone else, who knows...

The best way to solve this is to give all the teams, except Mercedes the opportunity to test the (updated) tyres that will be used at Canada. Give all teams, except Mercedes 1000 kilometres to test.

i don't know if you can organise this quickly... But if Mercedes and Pirelli can organise and have a deal after the race in a couple of hours, then it should be feasible for the rest as well, isn't it?

The best thing to do is to have 5 or so scheduled tire tests the Monday after GP's throughout the season. All teams participate.

Is it MotoGP that do tests on some Mondays after the race? I really think F1 should look at that; perhaps even make teams use a different driver, to give some of the up-and-coming drivers some more time to get into the cars. Don't just restrict the tests to tyres.

That won't happen because its too sensible an idea for F1.

Does anyone else actually want to supply F1 tyres right now?

If Todt scares Pirelli out (as he seems intent on doing), and there's no-one to fill the gap, he will have to suffer the consequences.

F1 on wood Avon tyres would be awesome :D

why is it said the Rosberg victory at Monaco is 'safe'?

If the ruling body finds that Mercedes had a significant and unfair advantage over the opposition by conducting their tyre test, I don't see why they couldn't take the victory away. Afterall, you could say the victory was the fruit of the unfair (if so proven) test.

as for the RtN post: I believe Todt would like Michelin.

I'm not sure, but I think the protests, that some of the teams made on Mercedes was about the testing itself, not the Monaco results, which have been declared official at this point.

Melbourne 2009 was also an official result at sunday night, but it changed when the real story came out of the Hamilton/Trulli incident.

one of the reasons testing was excluded was the cost factor - especially for the bottom teams. from that perspective testing throughout the season seems unlikely to be considered.

i did like the suggestion of letting the other teams do a one-off test with the same tires under the same exact conditions.

I am all for a test on the Monday after the GP. It could even make the reserve drivers feel useful if the race drivers wish to give it a miss.

besides, the fans would be the winners too. And who knows, the tests might even see some coverage.
