I guess, as time slowly moves forward, the chance of a 20th grand prix is getting ever lower. Shame. I would have loved to see a GP at the A1 ring, or even Paul Ricard.

It's been kind of unofficially confirmed that there's 19 races because the producer from Star Sports says they've received their schedule from FOM and it's got 19 races on it.

My main gripe with that is the way the calendar is spread out. Lots of races close together, then one race in seven weeks (I think) and then lot of races close together again.

Just saw an article about the track in Valencia. It looks like shit now. Mantenance is on a minimal level at the moment. Thieves robbed all the electronics and everything that has any value from the track and pitboxes, tunnels are under water and apparently the bridge they use is now only being used by a group of homeless people. Looks like the Spanish government doesn´t think there will be a GP in Valencia again.

Well, at least the last race there would have been legendary!
A country that can't provide work for 1/4th of its active population has a lot better to do than hosting two F1 GPs a year, though...

God no. I prefer no race at all than a race at Paul Ricard. A1 Ring =

I'll have to agree with Phil on the pacing though. We used to have 16 races regularly every two weeks (sometimes 3 for far destinations) and it was just fine, the season felt more "full" than those very irregularly spaced 20 GPs.

This might be a fairly irrelevant subject for some(so, sorry for that) but just to fill the empty spot regarding the ERS terminology discussed a couple of weeks ago, I finally found out where or how they will recover energy(other than kinetic) :

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2013/01/24/f ... 4-numbers/

They will use the heat from the turbo to generate electrical energy.

But I think another info is wrong in there:
Quote:
F1 engine manufacturers stopped issuing details of their power outputs during the 1990s. But since F1 engine technology was frozen with the introduction of the current V8s in 2006, the consensus view is today’s cars have around 750bhp.

Their replacements are expected to produce the same – before the addition of further power from ERS is taken into account.

From everything I had previously read about it, it seemed they would match current engine's power only with ERS being applied, which would put the engine's sole power around 600 HP
:o

The 2014 ERS will consist of two motor generator units that recover two different kinds of energy:

-Kinetic: Very comparable to the KERS we have now.

-Heat: Will be mechanically linked to the exhaust turbine of the turbocharger.

And all of that recovered energy will go to the Energy Storage. The form of storage is not specified by the regulations, it just has to weigh 20-25kg.

I got the exact opposite idea from that bolded phrase. The 1.6 V6T would produce 750hp and extra power from the ERS would be added to that. So we're closer to 900hp when ERS is activated. That power would nearly match the power that the best V10 engines had.

Makes you wonder sometimes why these sports stars who made tens of millions sell out and do cheesy comercials but it usually turns out that they lost all of their money one way or another.

With the introduction of the turbos, will there be further need for the airbox?

In fact, where does the air come from on roll-hoop cars? I always thought from the side pods but I'm not sure.

And is that design even related to turbos? F3000 cars from mid-nineties had that design and those weren't turbocharged.

NVirkkula you're correct, from what I've been reading it will be 750-800hp before any additional power sources.

The current engines are giving 760 to 780, but they were around 830 at stages before they introduced rev limit regulations.

I read on RACER mag that the engines will produce around 550 hp. It was the printed edition, the "Power issue".

Like IndyCar, predicting it'll be kept for the reason of safety.

Watching the video of Kubica's DTM test, Its clear he still has a lot of immobility in his right arm & especially his hand.

It would be great to see him recover enough to be able to come back to F1, Sadly I just can't see it happening :(
