Back when the apex of a corner was a perfectly reasonable place to spectate and take pictures.

I believe it was Clark who once got angry at a spectator because he was standing with his foot on the track and Clark had to change his line because of it.

on that matter I'm still amazed that racing in Monaco some 60 years ago was basically put the cars in the track and people would gather along to see it

I'm wondering if that's Monaco? Buildings etc. look a bit dirty so maybe was another street track?

Definitely Monaco '65 :) Here's another pic from the same place - the run down to Mirabeau I assume - with Graham Hill. Not sure if this was taken before or after he went up the escape road at the chicane, got out and pushed it back, then went on to win anyway. (I assume that doesn't count as one for the spin-&-win list?)

I still think that was more Barrichello turning in on him with his instructions to be a good blocker for Michael's rival in the title race.

The way the FIA handed a drive through to ruin Montoya's title bid was a total farce for what was at best a 50/50 incident, but that was at the height of Ferrari International Assistance (only a couple of weeks after that bullshit tyre ruling that hobbled Michelin too, ruined that title battle, it did)

Montoya would never have been champion though because didn't he retire in Japan with a mechanical failure?

Williams had the best car in 03 - Montoya should have won it comfortably. Many things didn't go his way.

spinning off when he was leading easily in Australia
the above impatience at Indy - probably lost 3rd place
blow up in Austria while leading
blow up in Japan while leading
Ralf finishing in front of him at Nurburgring and Magny Cours when MSC was struggling.

in one of those Williams gave away his strategy to Ralf and it was the key moment that made him sign with McLaren

Even by 60's standards, that's a big drop with not a lot of protection!
