I love that era of F1 cars. Even the backmarker teams had beautiful cars and liveries.

I think that shows the influence of budget on car design quite well. McLaren, with their comparably huge pots of money, were able to work with Porsche to ensure that the turbos were nicely exposed to airflow in the sidepod:
