I'm surprised he didnt faint after that. Surely that must have almost ended his life :innocent:

Also, didnt he book an early flight because he figured he would be out after a few laps anyways?

turns out it wasn't a race he shouldn't had won haha

another funny thing happened at post race interview, since Gugelmin finished 3rd he was there to answer questions but the journalists didn't bothered. He simply gave a vague look and said "does somebody have any questions?"

How good was Gugelmin actually? He was ok in CART later, but mostly just an also-ran. Did he have more potential than what his results suggests?

He had that massive crash at Texas in CART where he hit the wall with the front compromised

"Big Mo" was a front runner in CART during 1997, with a win at Vancouver, runner up at Long Beach and that famous victory near miss at Detroit when he ran out of fuel, but I put that mainly down to him driving what was the best car combination (Reynard-Mercedes-Firestone).
After 1997 he had the odd stand out qualifying / race result , including a 2nd place finish at Nazareth in 2000 and a shock Pole Position at the 2001 Burke Lakefront Airfield event, but rarely troubled the top runners onwards.

And there was the tragedy of losing his young son in 2001.

From what I know of Gugelmin in F1, he had a few decent results at Leyton House but was in Capelli's shadow a lot of the time. Would have scored a lot of points under the current system. But then he put Modena in the shade at Jordan

he wasn't that bad, his luck is that when he was racing several companies were willing to sponsor F1 and that gave him a good spot at Leyton House, and then Hollywood cigarettes landed him a good deal with Bruce McCaw

Yes, it's not happened in 30 years. Since then we've had several instances of 2 out of 3, so here's a bonus selection of those:

- 2003 British GP - Barrichello-Montoya-Raikkonen
- 2003 Italian GP - M Schumacher-Montoya-Barrichello
- 2004 Brazilian GP - Montoya-Raikkonen-Barrichello
- 2007 European GP - Alonso-Massa-Webber
- 2008 German GP - Hamilton-Piquet Jr-Massa
- 2009 Spanish GP - Button-Barrichello-Webber
- 2009 German GP - Webber-Vettel-Massa
- 2012 Japanese GP - Vettel-Massa-Kobayashi
- 2015 Hungarian GP - Vettel-Kvyat-Ricciardo
- 2016 Monaco GP - Hamilton-Ricciardo-Perez
- 2017 Azerbaijan GP - Ricciardo-Bottas-Stroll

(*this was the only one with a non-European in 4th, namely Moreno)

So that all being said, I'm now hoping for a Racing Point double-podium with Albon or Ricciardo up there as well

I think it was a non-Finnish member...but it might have been BrainPain too...who kinda is not Finnish, because he's from autonomous Åland (I hope I'm not insulting him by saying this. People from Åland seems to be proud of their roots to me and I respect that as I'm a Laplander).

A nice tidy car, that one. I always forget that it didn't start the season white:

Didn't this car have a "trick" suspension system which turned out to be a massive fail?

Yes, the 'Hydralink' suspension that every team now uses some variation of. I suspect they had the idea but not the budget for it.
