The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix proved a huge hit, staged on a new street circuit, with the city's famous skyline providing a truly spectacular backdrop. The race was announced in May 2007 following the agreement of a five-year deal between Formula One Management CEO Bernie Ecclestone, Singapore entrepreneur Mr Ong Beng Seng, and the Singapore Tourism Board. It instantly established itself as one of the most dramatic and atmospheric races on the calendar. The timing of the event also means it can be broadcast at a convenient time for European television audiences as well as thrilling local fans. Using public roads around the Marina Bay area, the circuit utilises powerful lighting systems to replicate daylight conditions and the most stringent safety protocols ensure driver and spectator safety. Grandstand seating and hospitality areas lining the track can accommodate more than 80,000 spectators, while a permanent pit area with deluxe paddock facilities is located adjacent to the Singapore Flyer complex. The event is more than just a motor race. "We envision it to be a national festival, and one that presents many opportunities for participation for everyone, both visitors and Singaporeans alike," said Singapore's Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mr S Iswaran. www.formula1.com
COMPLETE TIMETABLE
Thursday 20th September Formula One Press Conference - Press Room 18:00 Friday 21st September Porsche Carrera Cup Practice Session 14:45 - 15:15 Ferrari Challenge Practice Session 15:45 - 16:15 GP2 Practice Session 15:45 - 16:15 Formula One Practice 1 18:00 - 19:30 GP2 Qualifying Session 20:00 - 20:30 Formula One Paddock Club Pit Lane Walk 20:35 - 21:15 Formula One Practice 2 21:30 - 23:00 Formula One Press Conference - Press Room 23:15 Saturday 22nd September GP2 First Race (34 Laps or 60 Minutes) 16:00 - 17:05 Formula One Practice 3 18:00 - 19:00 Porsche Carrera Cup Qualifying Session 19:30 - 20:00 Formula One Paddock Club Pit Lane Walk 20:00 - 20:40 Formula One Qualifying 21:00 Ferrari Challenge Qualifying Session 22:30 - 23:00 Sunday 23rd September Ferrari Challenge First Race (12 Laps or 30 Minutes) 15:00 - 15:35 GP2 Second Race (24 Laps or 45 Minutes) 16:10 - 17:00 Porsche Carrera Cup Race (12 Laps or 30 Mins) 17:25 - 18:00 Formula One Paddock Club Pit Lane Walk 18:10 - 19:15 Formula One Drivers Track Parade 18:30 Formula One Starting Grid Presentation 18:45 - 19:15 Formula One National Anthem 19:46 Formula One Race 20:00
|

There are no major track changes I am aware of for this year. Hopefully they keep the kerbs like they were last year, let the drivers run all the way to the walls. |

Who's ready for another weekend of everyone saying it might rain all weekend and then actually not having a single drop all weekend? |

"1 light, 2 lights, 3 lights, 4 lights, 5 lights and when the lights go out we'll be RACI-oh" Now that'd be legendary. |

James is a nice guy, he was one of the few people to actually talk to me Although I think he's better now than he was at ITV anyway! |

There was rain in FP in 2010, no problem at all. |

There is no reason at all why the lights would cause problems with the rain. Sportscars have dealt with such a thing for decades. |

But this is F1. Drivers can't be expected to deal with it  MotoGP cancelled a wet night race. Although logistically, they have to run it on Sunday. |
