That's sad. If you haven't read his book Life at the Limit then do so. From the medical helicopter pilots to the drivers from different eras. Great read. |

I really hope that it's not true. If it is though, F1 need to honour him in some epic way. His contribution to safety can't be overstated no matter how hard you try. |

A massive downer, the man did so much for F1 and asked for so little in return, a true hero and a gentleman to boot. RIP Sid, you will be sorely missed. |

That would be Henry Hope-Frost who first posted it. I can only wish I will be able to achieve and experience (positive & negative) so much in that lifespan. 84 is a nice age. Rest in peace. |

http://www.amazon.com/Life-Limit-Triump ... 197&sr=8-1 Can only echo what Cash said. If you want to learn more about the good doctor of Formula 1, I highly reccomend his book: Life at the Limit. It's the second piece of motorsports literature I acquired, and it's one of the best for sure. Very exciting, even if you're not particularly a fan of motorsports, as it tells the history of a very interesting and important man. R.I.P. |

By reading his book I learned so much by the sport's dark side, before even my teens. When we are talking about unsung heroes, his name must be shoutest the loudest. |

Every F1 driver from the last 30 or so years owes Sid Watkins a debt of gratitude. Without him F1 would have undoubtedly lost a great many more drivers. He is one of F1's most important and influential people and it's a sad, sad day for the sport. As a mark of respect and of gratitude to a great man, Formula One should build a humidor and whisky cabinet into every medical car with a small plaque saying "Reserved for Sid". |
