I would have hated to see how motorsport would have been had Sid not taken a tough stance on medical services at race tracks, it was pretty much non-existent until he came along

Ron Dennis, McLaren chairman: “Today the world of motor racing lost one of its true greats: Professor Sid Watkins. No, he wasn’t a driver; no, he wasn’t an engineer; no, he wasn’t a designer. He was a doctor, and it’s probably fair to say that he did more than anyone, over many years, to make Formula 1 as safe as it is today.

As such, many drivers and ex-drivers owe their lives to his careful and expert work, which resulted in the massive advances in safety levels that today’s drivers possibly take for granted. But, more than that, Sid was a dear friend of mine, and I’ll miss him bitterly.

To his widow Susan, and to his family, I extend my sincerest condolences. He was a truly great man, and the world of motor racing simply won’t be the same without him”

Rest in Peace, I hope that he died in piece.
Thanks for everything you've done for motorsports, Mr. Watkins!

Sid was always a big character in the drama and danger of F1 and its history for me, very sad to hear of his passing. Safe to say his impact on safety in motorsport has extended far beyond F1 itself and safety in every racing series has probably benefitted from his influence in some way.

Dr. Watkins was one of the few persons that gave me crossed emotions everytime he was at the scene of accident. Firstly, being worried about the driver's condition but at the same time also relieved that the best possible help is already at the scene.

I've read his book many times and I got a feeling that not only he was passioned about his profession, but he was also passioned about motorsports and it's safety. Even from the book you can get a feeling how genuine individual he was. He'll be missed and may he rest in peace.

I'm late but, RIP Dr. Sid Watkins! A man who fought for safety, saved lifes and now is gone. Very sad for the motorsports.
