They had a starting light system failure at Istanbul a few years ago. I remember they had all taken their grid spots and it took agoes before the red light sequence started. Charlie had to reset the entire system first...

*ahem*

Seems this has gone unnoticed...

However. This article actually states that Schumacher DID in fact cause the aborted start. Not because of switching off his engine but for being out of position...

Yes there does seem to be a theme when Maldonado is penalised...

After Hungary...

"I have no idea why I got the penalty this time. It was a good overtaking manoeuvre."

After Silverstone...

"I was on cold tyres and had no angle to turn."

After Valencia...

"I don't know why he drove like that" (talking about Hamilton)

After Monaco...

"I did nearly nothing, it was just a little touch, because of the condition of the track..."

After Belgium 2011

"I tried to overtake him because he slowed down quite a lot. It's like a straight, but there's a turn and maybe at that moment he was turning and I was a bit straight."

Schumacher lined up incorrectly, cut his engine for no reason, picked up a puncture, sped through the pit lane. All within 2 laps

Seriously though, Mercedes is just reminding me of BAR/Honda now. Trying to join the top teams and occasionally sneaking in. But not consistently; they're 80 points behind Lotus and only 26 ahead of Sauber. That's embarrassing.

The engine was over-heating.

The penalty was real strange, in my view. If you give penalties for this, nothing is allowed.

If you don't give a penalty to a driver who drives into the side of another driver, who is at the absolute edge of the track, and pushes him off the track, what are you supposed to penalise?

Agree with everything bar Jenson, Fernando and Felipe who I believe you've given a point more to each than you should have.

Michael also said on the radio he turned the engine off because that's what you do on aborted starts. Clearly things have changed since he last did one and he wasn't up to date. So there's 2 clashing excuses. Both can't be right.

Apparently Schummy got the puncture from a drain while being pushed into the pits.
