I was going old school 8-bit and thinking the race should be sponsored by either "Mega Bomberman Bahrain GP" or the "Streets of Rage Bahrain GP"

There are so many agendas flying around its crazy though.
Those that want the race off because its politically unsound
Those that want the race off because it's usually a boring race on a shit track in a country that couldn't give two shits about F1
Those that want the race on as some kind of "We will not compromise our way of lives despite the threat of terrorism" "The line must be drawn here! This far and no further" statement
Those that want the race to carry on because even boring old Bahrain is still an F1 race and they don't want to wait 2 weeks until Spain...

Pick your sides people!

I wonder how many crew members ask to leave Brazil when come here for the race.

What about Kyalami with the apartheid? Did they actually stop going after the 1985 GP because of the apartheid or F1 outgrew the track?

AFAIK, they left South Africa because that race had repercuted very badly. It coincided with the execution of a poet member of the same party as Mandela (only 20 km far away from Kyalami) and there was huge pressure for cancelling the race. Ligier and Renault, for example, followed the request of French government to forfait the race. In Brazil, there was an order to deny perimission to Senna and Piquet to go to South Africa, which failed because they were to SA from Europe.

Some say F1 is dictatorships favorite sport, we cannot forget Brazil hosted F1 during our military dictatorship (The 70's were one of the worst dictatorship decades), Argentina has also received F1 during its bloody dictatorship. Just said that so nobody can say I only know how to criticize Bahrain GP because of it's tyrant government. If there will be racing, so let it be, let's all pretend everything is ok and see that Bahrain is very traditional country in racing, did you know that? Camel racing! Just kidding.

The race got a mention on Question Time, George Galloway said F1 was racing in blood and they wouldn't be forgiven if the race went ahead, rest of the panel agreed that the race should be cancelled.

Would that be the same George Galloway who is best friends with a man who is currently dropping artillery shells on one of his country's largest cities and was friends with another man who used mustard gas and sarin against his country's own ethnic minorities?

It would be nice if someone in the fucking government drew some attention to the situation, but, eh, what can you do.

Was wondering, how much influence does Bernie have on the actual calendar?
I know he is responsible for all the deals with the tracks but does he also have a big say in when the race is held?

It's pretty damn convenient that the race coincides with the London marathon. That date was known for a long time and it's very assumable that his girlfriend didn't decide to participate just last week.

If Bernie had influence on the calender he made sure he had a reason not to go....

Just saw a ITV report about the protests in Bahrain.... gotta say this is really really hurting F1's image

Well Bernie only holds 10% ownership in FOM. To suggest he still runs everything is just ignorance really. He is the face at the track because that's what he's good at.
