Sepang is a meh track. It never produces actual shockers, but never producers truly awesome races either, even when it's ridiculously wet.

Obviously you haven't seen the 2001 race, which was one of the craziest races on that season.

I can't quite remember the year that Fisichella couldn't find his gridslot, but that was embarassing :P

And it will be the same as it was last year.

Was afraid they would do 2 zones down the 2 long straghts & we'd end up with the stupidity we saw at India/Abu-Dhabi last year with meaningless passing/re-passing.

Something for you to bookmark;

http://f1weather.com/

It's done by the chap who used to do weather forecasts for autosport.com, and he was more or less bang-on.

Makes the important point that the 5-day forecasts are a crock of shite when it comes to tropical weather because of the complete absence of 'normal' weather patterns. Thunderstorm prediction is a very short-term science.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Chuva on saturday to mix up the field, and a dry race would be fine by me.

Likely scenario. Oh, look, HRT, Sauber, Lotus, Virgin, Caterham, Force India, Toro Rosso and Williams are all down waiting at the end of the pitlane. It's spitting with rain, but we can't go out the track is still green. I wonder what the Big 4 are doing. Oh, they're sitting in their pits. Oh, look, they're sitting in the pits since their systems say no rain. That black cloud over Turn 10 looks threatening. What's that the rain is getting heavier, but the systems say it will only be a short shower. What's now? Oh, the track is flooded and you're ten seconds off the pace now. HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED ANYTHING FROM TWO YEARS AGO YOU MORONS!!!

It annoys me as much as the teams complaining they didn't get any dry running despite doing absolutely bugger all to actually dry the track.

Never understood the hype with that track. Sepang is probably the nicest fast sweepy track on the calendar I reckon but it still lacks that something somehow.

Like the majority of Tilke tracks:

A great track for the drivers (I do love it on F1 2011 on my Xbox) but all the twisty stuff and long radius corners in the back section doesn't exactly allow cars to follow closely.
The back straight is mainly Tilke's pre-DRS idea to allow cars to regain the lost ground to the car in front they suffered through the high downforce section so they'll be in a position to slipstream down the start/finish straight.

All the classic Tilke characteristics are there,
Double apex corners, check.
Corners appearing on the acceleration zone of the previous corner to try and surprise the driver, check.
Apex of one corner higher than the corner entry to try to confuse the driver into not knowing exactly where the apex is, check.
Long radius corner that gradually tightens the further the driver gets through it to try to fool them into carrying too much speed and running wide...check.

Still, it being early in the season means you often get a few surprises, you're almost certain of some overtaking into turn 1/re-passing into turn 3 anyway so its worth a watch.

According to the guys there it's tipping it down now, if this was Sunday there'd be no chance of racing.

If the race can't run on Sunday because of the rain can they move it to Monday or would they just run 2 laps under the pace car to get half points?

They'll try and get in as much as possible. It'd be a nightmare for Monday, no-one would be around to watch it.

they are limited to a 4 hour window to get the race in, starting from the local start time. If the race is not completed within the 4 hour window it's over. This rule was introduced for this season after Montreal 2011 took 'quite' long to finish.

The race starts an hour earlier now so that gives them a bit more time to play with
