I can't change your opinion of that ellis but I still disagree. We're clearly seeing things differently. Being a winner, multiple podium finisher and consistent points scorer doesn't mean average to me.

Lol. I love people's use of word mediocre. None of the drivers mentioned so far are anywhere near mediocre. Mediocre (in F1 terms) is someone like Mazzacane, Karthikeyen, maybe even Petrov (even that's probably a little unfair).

It has already been specified that this is in F1 terms. There is no doubt that every driver who gets into F1 is a very good driver overall. But in F1 terms, Trulli is average. He is average in that he preformed averagely whilst in F1.

Exactly. They are still better than 99,9999% of the people you see on the street. But they are not on the same level as some other drivers in F1 history.
I don't want to say they are bad, not at all, but they aren't the drivers who will be remembered in 100 years time.

I believe Raikkonen and Button can be up with the top three on their days. For Button, I think the car has to be working perfectly with his driving for him to do well, where as Hamilton is able to make any car go fast. As for Raikkonen, sometimes he manages to find speed where nobody else can.

That being said, both of them are not consistent enough, therefore they can't be put with those top three.

What are you on? Seems to be good stuff. Please explain to me how he is completely beaten by a 43 year old. I am sincerely looking forward to your answer.

I don't understand why all of you rate Petrov as being a bad driver. I reckon that pretty much every driver that has acheived a podium in F1 can't be described as mediocre.

Gianni Morbidelli
Aguri Suzuki
Eric Bernard
Nelsinho Piquet
Alex Wurz (2nd stint)
etc.

Now, granted, Petrov's only podium was not particularly fortuitous but he has never delivered a performance like it since. Mediocre? Definitely.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Petrov isn't a mediocre driver. A mediocre communicator within his team, but not as a driver.

All of them are stars in their own right, what Kals means is the car is much more important in the equation than you guys seem to give it credit for.

For instance if you put Petrov in the Red Bull last year, I don't have any doubt that he would have won races, but put him in the HRT, and I doubt he'd had done any better than their regular drivers.

Flip that around and put Hamilton or Alonso in the Merc this year, would not suddenly make the Merc a winner, they may get slightly better results, maybe 1 or 2 places, but they wouldn't transform the teams results over what Schu and Rosberg have done.

The quality of car is probably 80% of how good a driver "appears" to be.

I know two guys who became slightly poorer at the end of last season because Rosberg out placed Schumacher more times than the other way. I hope to see the same money again this year.
It was close though.

Not strictly F1 related, but I wasn't sure where else to post this. Rather random news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19621449

Sorry if already posted somewhere else but Kubica had a big crash during a rally in Italy yesterday. On the video here, we can see him walking, he seems alright. Time for him to stop rally in my opinion...

Quote:
Former BMW and Renault F1 star Robert Kubica crashed out of the San Martino di Castrozza Rally on Saturday.

The Pole, who has had to endure an 18-month lay-off following serious injuries sustained in a rallying accident in Italy prior to the start of the 2011 F1 season, went off the road in his Subaru Impreza WRC in the second test and came to rest in some trees. Organisers later confirmed that Kubica and co-driver Jakub Gerber both escaped unharmed. The car, however, was badly damaged, and he will not be able to re-start today.

It was his second outing in less than a week, after he won the Ronde Gomitolo di Lana rally last weekend.

I keep reading that he shouldn't be rallying. So...why? His F1 career is done. He enjoys driving. Why shouldn't it be rally?

Because a lot of people are silly.

But I think in the long term for his career, sportscars would be better. If he enjoys rallying, fine. But he's still only young - I think he's 27 - and rallying is difficult to start from this level. If you look at how Raikkonen took a while to get up to speed. For now, rallying is fine as it's good rehab. But eventually, he'll want success on a higher level than a little rally. He won't win a WRC or IRC event. So I think in the future, say 2014 or 2015, he should try WEC or something.

I agree with the both of you. If Kubica's having fun then why should he stop?

I think he could be very successful in sportscars, and I honestly don't see him as a very good rally driver (he's not doing very well at local level), but if that's what he wants to do, then I say do it. Sportscars isn't really for everyone, with long stints on your own often seen as boring by many drivers. If he isn't into that sort of thing then maybe rallying is the best for him.

Indycar? If he can't get a seat in F1 that seems like a good alternative, if he can cope with it physically.

If he can't handle an F1 car because of his arm then I really doubt he'd fare much better in Indycar, especially on some of the streetcourses.

I think the main issue is the dexterity of hid hands and of his elbow. It's the narrowness of the F1 cockpit that presents the problem, so it'd be the same with IndyCar.
