I like the fact that the cars change every year, not a big fan of the massive front wing , narrow track and the skinny rear tires.

I so so so wish Ferrari would go back to the classic red and black look. The black accents just work so well.

And I wish they were allowed to run the 27 and 28 as well.

It was (sort of) going to happen for the 2002 season IIRC, but Sauber complained having had their best ever season, they wanted to run the numbers 7 an 8 which they felt they had earned. Other teams agreed and the idea was scrapped.

Would be awesome to see 27 & 28 on the Ferrari, 5 & 6 on the Williams and 7 & 8 on the McLarens again.

If even teams like Eurobrun were able to make nice looking cars with a budget made up of loose change and a bag of maltesers then there's no excuse for today's monstrosities.

Then again, teams like Eurobrun pretty much had to rely on the designs of the other teams, or else they'd go nowhere, like Life.

To be very honest with you, nowadays cars might be ugly, but they're still better than those of 1998-2008 era, when they used grooved tires and lots of aerodynamic interventions on the car....the limit was 2008 when they were exploring the cars too much with so many little wings through the entire car, we were getting a real visual pollution in F1.

I like the new principles based on aerodynamic cleanliness. Unfortunately because of some rule changes, this year cars might be uglier than the normal but I think we'll get used to it and besides, I think FIA will change rules for next year.

You honestly think that the current cars look better than this?

A timely reminder that this year's cars aren't so terrible.

It wasn't a big success back in 2004, but I'm wondering if a front wing and nose concept like that of the Williams FW 26 would make sense under the new regulations? Considering that the nosecones are wider and the connectors that the front wing is attached to are bigger now.

That's what I was talking about...this car looked like a Tokusatsu in morphed state rather than an open wheeler.

heh there's more to the story behind this wing than told. They say it was a failed design however it was apparently not a bad design at all and the improvement in performance in the car as the season progressed was due to improvements in other areas on the car and not a result of changing back to a standard nose design. There was a lit of internal politics which were the real reason for the change back to the standard design.

You know, with the current cars looking as they do, the Walrus Williams really doesn't seem all that weird.

For me, F1 car from 96-97 were very beautiful. I really like the 96 Ferrari. A nice and big car.. And I think the last to have the low nose.

With all the talk about the ugly front noses, I didn't realize that at then cars launch Ferrari blocked the rear diffuser and under tray. I know teams don't show off anyof their main ideas at a launch, but still never seen that at a launch. Maybe this is where they are going to be radical?

Mclaren did something similar:

Can recall teams covering the diffusers last year as well.

If that car didn't have an airbox, it'd look like an early 90s IndyCar. I like it.
