Ralf's wreck in Quali in 05 was good. Had understeer all weekend so turned in to Tabac early, expecting understeer. Car was grippier, clipped the inside and KABLAMO into the outside barriers.

A Vettel-broken wrist wouldn't be something I'd cry about. Not gravely injured, but enough to put him out to a point where it could make the Championship interesting.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

No, he's currently 5th...

To be honest, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to see a 'best driver'. Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel are so close in my eyes. There's a top 3 that are superior to the rest.

The best car is leading the championship, one of the best drivers is making best use out of it. Vettel is a great driver, but not as complete as Alonso or Hamilton yet.

EDIT - Just seen Phil's post. I agree.

When we're at the point where we're wishing physical harm to drivers, I can safely say we've gone too far. I hated Schumacher back in the day, even I wasn't pathetic enough to wish him a broken leg.

I kinda agree, because Alonso is a truly brilliant all-rounder. But at the same time, what else does Vettel have to do prove it? Just came off a race where he made 3 passes in a single lap, and he put up with immense pressure from the driver who many consider to be one of the best, if not the best, overtaker on the grid.

I think we're incredibly lucky to have Vettel, Alonso and Lewis so closely matched that it's hard to tell who's the best.

I don't know really. Its strange, he's won what, 14 races, got 18 or 19 poles, a title and is still only 23 years old. Yet for some reason I can't quite put him ahead of Alonso or Hamilton.

I think maybe because in 2010, he cocked up a fair amount. Alonso and Hamilton were within a sniff of the title in inferior car. Its not that Vettel has the best car, but that so many people believe the Red Bull to be so much faster than anything else. Like in 2005, I think Alonso really, really proved himself because the McLaren was so fast and he wiped the floor with Fisichella. Vettel came too close to being beaten by Webber last year, irrespective of the reliability probs. If Vettel sustains this ass whooping of Webber for the next half a season or so, I'm going to become wholly convinced he'll be one of the sports greatest.

I know what you mean ellis, I think the only thing I want to see of Vettel is an immense drive through the field.

Vettel has been brilliant this year. Unlike last year there have been no silly mistakes and he has driven great under pressure from other drivers and some RBR reliability issues with that KERS system. The passes he made on Sunday were commendable, regardless of the fact they were assisted by tyre degradation, they were perfectly timed and necessary to ensure he went on to win the race.

Yeaa, Vettel was making too many mistakes last year. This year he hasn't made any and Webber just can't touch him.

Yeah, I think Sunday was his best win of his career. He did exactly what he needed to do, whilst Webber slipped into nowhere land. Didn't take pole, didn't lead at the start but kept his head. Used the strategy perfectly, made some good passes and soaked up the pressure from Lewis for countless laps. In fact, he's had to overtake someone in every race he's won so far this year.

Honestly, after Vettel's performance last weekend, I don't see what else he could do to prove himself. The main routes of attack seems to be 'he can't fight through a pack\he can only win from pole' - he did that last weekend, and he also did it at Silverstone last year which everyone conveniently forgets.

Besides, even if he can't win from pole, what does it matter? He's obviously one of the absolute best in qualifying, and he's on pole now more often than not.

I've said it before, but I wouldn't mind if he does lock out the WDC for the next decade, because he's a very likeable guy who clearly enjoys being in the sport.

So long as the racing is good I don't care about domination.

Sorta going back to Monaco, this is a hugely crucial weekend for a few guys:

- Webber got owned again by Vettel in Spain. Vettel's never really shone around Monaco (yeah, in his mere 3 starts) whilst Webber seems to love the circuit. His drive in 2006 was sensational until the Williams suffered its routine problem

- Ferrari. Got lapped in Spain. Ouch.

- Renault. Have slipped off the pace a tad recently. R31 carries similar characteristics as the R30 so I'm expecting Heidfeld on the podium.

Which perfectly summarizes the 2011 season so far.

I don't mean this as a bash on anybody, and I don't mean this as harsh as it sounds, I just can't find the words at the moment.

But Vettel seems to get treated much harsher than any other driver on the grid. Vettel made mistakes last year, but Webber made quite a lot too. But Vettels are highlighted more. And back when Lewis was a little less mature, he was crashing into cars in pit lanes and what not, but that was ignored fairly early on.

I don't want to sound like a rabid fanboy or something, I just suck at wording stuff. I just think we're forgetting just how little experience Vettel has compared to the others he's fighting in the races.

For me, the Schumacher years weren't dull because Schumacher was winning. They were dull because the racing sucked, especially in the later years. If Vettel walks the title, and the races are awesome, who cares? The Spanish GP this year was a bit average by 2011 standards, but way better than almost any Spanish GP in history (except for 1996, for obvious reasons). I'll live with that...

I just think wishing drivers to brake bones is over the line. You don't do that.

As for Monaco, this is Webbers best shot at tipping the scales. He needs it for psychological reasons, not just points. I'm betting for a McLaren win however

Yeah, 2002 sucked because the racing sucked. The winner doesn't matter.

And Vettel and Hamilton are very equally matched in terms of experience. I don't get the whole Vettel inexperience thing. Vettel has, in fairness, started 9 less races I think, but he could do his growing up at STR rather than fighting for the world championship. Thats a big difference. You could write whole books about the positives and negatives of Vettel and Hamilton, but I think we should agree that they're both superstars who should rule the sport for years to come.

Monaco stuff now:

Wow.

That last one's posted by Taki Inoue. For once he's not being run over I guess.
