I wouldn't be so sure about that. This year seems to be the first year he can not only qualify at the front but also not fuck it up.

Engine related, at least. This engines were designed to rev over 20k RPM (remember they are limited to 18k now) and they've had several years now to increase their reliability.

I remember the 2002 Belgian GP where engines were blowing up left right and centre but today engine failures are rare indeed. Rules such as 8 engines per year and 4 race gearboxes have certainly made things more reliable and also cut costs down considerably.
