Worth a 5, kept me awake before the footy (which in retrospect was a bad thing).

The Ferrari radio conversations this year should be up for some sort of comedy award. The "WAAAAAAAAAA IT'S NOT FAIR" one is right up there with Smedley's free driving lessons, and the "half a second quicker with a broken front wing" classics.

Kobayashi, who else?
That proves with current SC rules and no refuelling, there is no point stopping during a yellow, probably more drivers will think that way in the future.

One of autosports' top stories from the weekend: 'Webber drops in Castrol rankings'.

For a top motorsports news site, what a trash story. I guess its more to do with the fact that autosport sponsor the rankings system or something. Seriously though, that Castrol rankings is absolute BS.

I am becoming increasingly frustrated by Autosport. I know people have been saying for ages that it's becoming more sensationalist and appealing to the lowest common denominator, but now even I can see that. I won't cancel my subscription because there are other benefits like Forix access (which I couldn't do with that) and I do read most of the non-F1 articles on the website, but I find myself less enthusiastic about reading the magazine and I don't read most of the F1 articles on there

The Castrol Rankings are a load of nonsense and have been since day 1. It's a ridiculous idea, and the whole PR fluff around it at the beginning was full of crap as well, saying it's the first of its kind (which it isn't) and that it's "authoritative"

You know, all this talk could have been avoided if 1) the SC came out and picked up the leader, or 2) allowed cars to pass until the leader was behind it.

I thought this was meant to be the case anyway, so something clearly went wrong yet again under FIA ruling...

Martin Brundle's thoughts (From BBC website)
Quote:
Whether the safety car should only emerge just in front of the leader is another matter but it's not easy choreographing that given the closing speeds, and the fact that in the pit-stop phases often associated with these incidents the leader can very quickly be a different car

Plus (a very good point)
Quote:
Hamilton didn't harm them; it was just fate and co-incidence as to where the safety car emerged. They should be equally unhappy about Vettel, who was just in front Hamilton.

I didn't watch the race, but having watched highlights and read various articles, I still can't work out why Alonso (and the rest of the pack) weren't waved round when the safety car came out until they picked up Vettel?

Would serve them right. Mosely would have come down on them like a ton of bricks so far.

Mosely would've found a way to ban Mclaren from the rest of the season for that small SC miscalculation.... :p

F1 seriously needs to go back to closing the pits now that no-one is going to run out of fuel if the SC comes out...
It would've eliminated the need for a stupid delta thing and probably would've meant Hamilton wasn't so eager to pass the SC to rush around to the pits either....

Plus the fact that it was the main reason quite a few races in 2008 were so good is a side effect ;)

Whatever you say about this race, shock horror, Valencia finally finds a way to throw up headlines to the F1 world!

And so many! (Webber Crash, Hamilton SC, Button et al penalties, Kobayashi star performance, Micheals extended test session, etc etc...)

It wasn't exactly 10/10 but a lot better than the "worst race in history" we were all expecting!

(still a shit track for overtaking though ;) )

Very interesting analysis by SPEED's Steve Matchett
http://www.speedtv.com/video/popup/1045 ... /595223643

Some interesting comments about Pirelli coming in.
Do they have an interest making bad tyres to improve the racing?

I can't view the video but all I know is Pirelli aren't coming to F1 because they think the show is bad and they can do something about it...

They're coming in to increase awareness of and sell Pirelli tyres...

I just hope somehow they are slightly more malleable than Bridgestone were.

Bridestone: "no,tyres have to be perfect 100% of the time, minimal difference between compounds, good advert for Bridgestone tyres"

If Pirelli are more "Well, on a racing car tyres do go off occasionally when they're being pushed at 200mph...its not going to reflect badly on us if the tyres loose a bit of grip over the course of a stint" then we could have a classic season on our hands.

(And saying that, 2010 is already shaping up to be quite a corker too! :) )

Terrible track, awful previous races, expectations lowered.

Race reasonably eventful, suddenly massively suprised, tempted to overrate just out of shock that I didn't fall asleep.

I'll give it a 6. Kobayashi earnt it a point all by himself though. ;)

You completely misread that.

5 for me, as the safety car shenanigans ruined it. Shame, as without all that we would have had a great duel between Hamilton and Vettel I reckon.

Also, +1 for finding Ferrari's whinging hilarious, especially given how they'd basically done a day of testing on a 'filming day' during the week. Those in glass houses...

Hamilton opinion :)
Quote:
"It's very unlike him to be overtaken by a Sauber so he must have been completely in another world. But I don't understand why I affected his race so much.
"Everyone has a right to their opinion, and he must be disappointed with his own result, but I didn't do anything to him."

Every flow has its ebb. :D

The point he was trying to make is that tire manufacturers aren't going make their tires crap so that the racing gets better. That isn't their job. Their job is to make the best tires for Formula One.
