Adelaide imo (the long version)

Iono man, Adelaide reminds me of Singapore. (not that that race was horrible, but it wasn't that good.)

Can they fix that up fairly quickly?

I believe they neutered the track because sponsors didn't like the helicopter shots down the long straights.

nope, all the tarmac got dug up and replanted with trees

what a waste of a great circuit :x

I try to predict the calendar here.

Melbourne has a contract with FIA, so it's out of the question. Most tracks in the calendar could host both F1 and FOTA events, but street courses are probably out. Therefore we don't see FOTA going to Melbourne, Monaco, Valencia or Singapore. I'm not sure if they want to use the majority of the F1 circuits in their calendar, but let's believe that they do so because of the safety standards. FOTA also wants to have at least 17 races, maybe more after first one or two seasons.

So:

- Malaysia
- China
- Fuji
- Bahrain
- Imola
- Barcelona
- Magny-Cours
- Montreal
- Indianapolis
- Silverstone
- Nurburgring
- Spa
- A1-ring
- Monza
- Portimao
- Suzuka
- San Luis
- Interlagos

thats not a bad calendar, but I still see China

Who owns Spa?

I know Bernie has been trying to buy it and I believe his wife owns most of the land surrounding the property.

So who owns Spa and what series would race at it?

For christ's sake don't let FOTA race on any great circuit F1 has not demolished yet.
As all the safety crusaders like Heidfeld will be with FOTA it's just a matter of time before we have 200m tarmac runoff at the Kink in Elkhart Lake

What ever happens in the next days or weeks, FOTA should try to be closer to the fans. Cheaper tickets, more traditional circuits (does not mean european) and stay away from strange countries like Bahrain where you have only the Sheik with all his entourage + paid trips for mechanics families.

I mean, you have 15 million people watching F1 here in Germany, close to 20 million at prime time GP's like Brazil and not even 100.000 turn up on a warm and sunny sunday at the end of July at Hockenheim? Millions of people live within an hour drive from the circuit. Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Heidelberg, Darmstadt - and there are many rich people around, especially north of Frankfurt. Vettel and Glock grew up a stonethrow away from Hockenheim.

They have to take care they run the opposite calendar, no Australian will watch F1 in early march and FOTA GP in early April. Their race has to be the classic season final.
They have to take care that they don't race at the Nurburgring (GP obviously) whilst F1 is at Spa 100km away...

You would see no overtaking, probably a fatal accident with how dangerously narrow it is. Last 5 CART/IRL races there have been crap.

We'll keep the grand prix, you can keep schoolies

Yeah but, isn't it so that IF there would be a breakaway series, could the fota series also go to albert park? Because i thought it couldn't since formula 1 already has it. It's confusing, but i've always wanted f1 at surfers paradise, it's great at night, it's basically a very cheap version of monaco, and i live down the road from the track. :p

But yes, we keep schoolies. :flag:

I have read FOTA could use European Union Antitrust laws to make possible compete in european circuits as Spa, Monza, Montmeló etc.

Replace Abu Dhabi with Spa and it's perfect.

Interesting, but I'm not completely sure if that's realistic.

- Argentina's selection of Buenos Aires is a little odd. Bernie has apparently just signed a contract for a F1 street race in Mar de Plata (it's been talked about in this forum). One would think the FOTA would want to go to Potrero de los Funes instead, rather than that mickey-mouse track shithole in Buenos Aires? I mean, I don't know what conditions the Buenos Aires circuit has nowadays, but surely a brand new track with FIA GT safety standards would be easier to adopt right now?

- I guess Mexico would be realistic, but only with the Peraltada chopped up as they were going to do for A1GP.

- The German GP in Lausitz? Why? :? What could be possibly the logic behind that? Do the Ring and Hockenheim have exclusivity contracts with F1?

- Helsinki? I guess that would be to cash in for the popularity of Raikkonen and Kovalainen to get in a nice crowd, but can that street circuit be adapted for F1? I have no idea as I've never seen any race there.

- Can they really steal Abu Dhabi and Singapore away from Bernie?

I'll try to imagine a callendar with no curent F1 tracks in it since I don't know what circuit hast contracts for how long.

1. Australia: Surfers Paradise
2. Japan: Fuji or a Street Circuit in Tokyo (Suzuka is a F1 rack and Fuji is still better than Aida)
3. Korea: Seoul Street Circuit (I vistied this city a few weeks ago and it's abreathtaking place)
4. South Africa: Kyalami or a street circuit in Joburg or Capetown (we should have at least one race on every continent to call it a world championship - except antarctica, just for the smart-alecs)
5. Italy: Imola (traditionally the opener of the european part)
6. France: New Charade (most likely no great racing but outstanding track)
7. USA: Elkhart Lake or Indy Infield but with at least two oval corners (Doubleheader with Indycar? Probably in may?)
8. Canada: Montral or Mont Tremblant or Mosport (of corse most likely Montreal, but the other two are bloody awsome tracks)
9. Potugal: Portimao (best track in iberia and most spanish tracks are shit for openwheelers, so we need a race in portugal)
10. GB: Silverstone or Donnington(what ever is not taken by F1)
11. Germany: Norisring(bloody fucking awsome!!!!)
12. Romania: Bukarest's Fia GT Circuit (since we should have a race in eastern europe)
13. Austria: A1 Ring
14. Mexico: Mexico City with old Peralta (PERALTA FEVER!!!!)
15. Argentina: The Track around that Lake (great scenery)
16. Brazil: Curitiba (srsly - but leave it as bumpy as it is)
17. Dubai: Street Circuit (around that sky scraper plz)
18. India: New Delhi or Mumbay... Airport! (great idea, isn't it? besides: force india would switch)
19: The big saison finale in... New York City Street Circuit incl. Start/Finish @ Time Square!!!! (holy motherfucking shit)

If this championship does go ahead, they will have 6 months to organise circuits so have some brains and don't pick circuits that will not host the series or will not be ready. Also there will be clashes so the calendar will have to have races in different positions.

Id like to see the current calander projected for 2010 in F1, as this split isnt even going to happen. Im sticking with Peter Windsor saying this split is incomprahenceasble(sorry if i spelt that wrong) and eventually reality is going to bite.

Let me point out problems wit those tracks:

1 - Chaos will ensue.
2 - Fuji is shit and a street race in Tokyo is like putting a plug on your aorta.
3 - Same as Tokyo.
4 - Kyalami is somewhat fine.
5 - Not bad.
6 - Charade only hosts club races, has no facilities not even for a WTCC race, let alone F1.
7 - Elkhart would be destroyed. I'd take Indy.
8 - Montreal, please.
9 - Yes, i agree with you.
10 - Same as above.
11 - Too short, DTM does it in 50 seconds, F1 would take like half a minute to do a lap.
12 - How about NO race on eastern europe?
13 - Still to be built.
14 - Face it, you cant have a modern F1 race (or any open-wheeler) with the old Peralta.
15 - It would be a shitty race.
16 - Ditto.
17 - Just, no.
18 - Might aswell go t Cleveland, at least they are experienced there.
19 - Same as 2 and 3.

There is no possible calender that would satisfy everyone and produce proper racing.
