So next year we'll have Formula One supported by Formula Two at pretty much the same tracks we have now, and GP1 supported by GP2 at a load of different tracks (Silverstone?).

Hmm.

Someone should change the name of this thread or start a new one given that this is possibly the most significant moment in the entire history of the sport...

The official deadline for entries into the F1 championship is 5pm today.

5 new teams to be added, then, on the assumption that Brawn doesn't switch sides before then.

Rather conviniently for the FOTA Teams they have a few tracks which are off the F1 calendar. Montreal. Magny Cours. Indianapolis. Silverstone. Imola. could all make a potential calendar.

THere's still hope I suppose that this is a pretty emphatic piece of brinksmanship. Whatever the case, it's the fans who are being dragged over the coals once again.

Going to be a pretty heavy atmosphere at Silverstone tomorrow I'd expect. Am going so will see for myself...

why people assume breakaway series cant run on current tracks. It is not like the fia owns the ttracks right? I think its up to fota to make a deal with track owner. Fia just guarantee safety on the track by handing the licence?

I presume that most of the tracks have current deals with the FIA...

Eight teams. Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Ferrari are joining this breakaway series according to BBC News.

Some tracks are either in Mosely's pocket (Melbourne) or have the commerical rights operated by Bernie (Spa). They will be untouchable.

However, Monte Carlo is not untouchable.

As far as Max Mosely is concerned, those three teams have unconditional entries into the 2010 Formula One World Championship and he'll clean them out if they try to back out. If Ferrari's deal with the FIA is still legitimate, it is illegal for Ferrari to enter in this new series.

Of course, Ferrari and the other teams argue otherwise.

I'm wondering what role Bernie will have in all this. He's got the rights to the GP1 name, GP2 is 'his' series... if he followed the manufacturers across things could get bloody interesting.

I don't get why FOTA did this considering Max gave them a very good comprimise deal that was practically the same as the one they themselfs asked for.

FOTA want 'NO' budget caps but technically cost saving regulation.Plus scarp BS rights of Fia + Fresh Concorde Agreement.
Fia says budget cap MUST ..negotiable range 40m to 100m.With budget cap Bernie would get even more $ pie.
