Today is the 15th anniversary of the death of the greatest ever driver, Ayrton Senna.

The whole weeked was straight out of hell and I hope that we never see anything like that ever again. The incidents throughout the weekend were:

Barrichello's crash at the Variante Bassa during Friday Qualifying.
Roland Ratzenberger's awful accident at the Villeneuve curve during Saturday Qualifying. Seeing the footage of him being flung around like a ragdoll is still hard to watch, even today.
Start line crash involving JJ Lehto and Pedro Lamy where a wheel went into the crowd.
Michelo Alboreto losing a wheel in the pit lane late in the race, resulting in injuries to pit crew.
Ayrton Senna's fatal crash, which, to this day, remains a mystery.

If we saw one crash like this today in a race, it would be pretty bad but 5 major incidents including 2 fatal crashes in one weekend is just hell on Earth.

RIP AYRTON AND ROLAND. NEVER FORGOTTEN.

that was a sad weekend, and I remember all very well, after friday it seemed that it was impossible to get killed in a F1 racing car... I remember reading the saturday newspapers, about how strong F1 cars were...

Then there was Roland's crash, at first I thought he would walk away as well... :(

And off course Senna's crash.... During the race all mixed information was given, first he seemed to be okay, then he would have broken a leg or something, and it got only worse and worse, but even at the end of the race everyone was inconclusive about his health...

Time goes on, but the memory still remains. Still feels like it was only a few years ago. :(

From a personal point of view, I like to think of myself as a quite strong person mentally but every year this day comes round it still hurts.
Ayrton became my childhood hero from Monaco 1984 onwards and his death was very hard for me. It still is and I will hold a 1 minute silence for him at exactly 2.16pm, as I have every year since.

Don't know if any of you ever heard the tribute song I wrote about Imola 94 (posted on the old TBK forum)but the lyrics are below. Would appriciate your comments and thoughts...

RIP Ayrton, you gave so much to this 32-year old as a kid and teenager, thank you my friend...

Just another ordinary Sunday
May the first of ninety-four
San Marino was the place where
We got shaken to the core

Born into his world a leader
Showing everyone the way
Heading out into the distance
When our minds were blown away

He was the one
The one true champion
Then lap seven came
And heaven called his name

Goodbye my friend
We'll never see you again
We all cry together
Senna Forever

When the realisation kicked in
And we knew that it was real
Didn't wanna stop believing
That his fate God couldn't seal

He will always be here with us
Still in our hearts is left a hole
We'll find peace of mind in knowing
With the angels lies his soul

He was the one
The one true champion
Then lap seven came
And then heaven called his name

Goodbye my friend
We'll never see you again
We all cry together
Senna Forever...

I've got that on my computer, still listen to it occasionally, it's a great song.

Nice of the BBC to put up their tribute programme they made in 1995, watched it earlier.

To me the weekend marks the start of my interest in F1. Whether or not I was aware of the sport before I don't know, but the surge in media coverage aftewards made me more aware of the sport.

As for mourning either of the two drivers, ultimately whilst I can admire Senna's talent, I don't feel much loss since I had never invested anything into them beforehand.

I have on a old cd, a song for Ayrton Senna. But i think this song belongs also to our race hero Roland Ratzenberger.

Race in Peace guys! you 2 will never be forgotten :(

Seems like it was yesterday, not 15 years ago. I'd been booting a football around my garden on the Saturday when my Mum called me in to tell me about Ratzenberger, and was watching live when Senna crashed. Never thought the sport I loved would make me so miserable again, but then there was 31st October 1999...

Can't stand here and say I was a big Senna fan at the time, but as with everything once it had happened and I'd gone back and remembered everything he'd done it became more apparant of the magnitude of what everyone had lost. There was this air about the guy - some kind of weary sage or philosopher personality - that we've not seen since.

The aftermath was amazing and, on levels, annoying. Amongst my group of school friends F1 was always 'my sport', but suddenly when Imola happened everyone was interested. Still, it figured I guess what with it being so shocking. The funeral was something else; a few years later I went out with a Brazilian girl who had stood at the roadside when it happened and she said she had something to show me. She got a slightly worn, slightly tatty poster of Senna backed by wood out of her cupboard and promptly burst into tears. She'd held it up as his coffin went by. I've still got it - when she went back to Brazil she gave it to me.

So, yeah, a terrible day, but also one that stirred the sport enough to take measures that perhaps saved a few drivers' lives subsequently.
