They do race at Watkins Glen and Sears Point and they get on fine there (most of the time).

I guess CoT fits well in both kind of tracks, right?

Personally, I think the COT is a godsend for the roadies. I don't think we've had a bad Cup road race since the COT was introduced.

(That being said, the roadies were still quite good with the old car)

so if some drivers had an improved experience in road courses with some F1 testing they might be able to drive, at least those who already had a stint on formula cars (like AJ Almendinger)

Scott Speed should at least have a testseat
he is the only driver who has a good number of tracktime with mondern F1
although, with the new rules this may not be such an advantage..

Motorsport News said Speed has ruled himself out of working with the project.

another driver aside from kyle busch who has good enough car control for f1 would be carl edwards. i'm not really a fan of his but i think he would have a better chance at adapting than most of the others. there are other drivers but my opinion might become biased beyond those i have already mentioned.

What about Jeff Gordon? Isn't his contract up at the end of 2010?

Too old I'd say - he'd be the oldest rookie since the 60's I'd guess.

It would be a great way for him to retire from NASCAR though. It'd be half the amount of race weekends as a NASCAR season. I could see him do it for a season or two, it would be the most awesome thing ever.

I belive that Rick has a lifetime contract with Jeff Gordon signed after his third cup. I belive that Dale Sir. and Jeff are the only two drivers to have a lifetime contract in a series. But i could be wrong... But this only applies to Nascar.. If he jumps ship he can drive in F1. But if he comes back to Nascar he has to drive with Rick. ;)

Rick Hendrick actually offered Jimmie Johnson a lifetime contract after the end of last year, but Jimmie didn't accept it.

Just read that Barrichello is a possible driver for USF1. The Guardian quotes Windsor saying that they need an experienced driver in the seat.

It would suck, i think, as it goes against what USF1 should represent.

Windsor actually mentioned Barrichello by name too...

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73421

But he has mentioned so many names that it's funny how so many websites are immediately reporting "rumours". There's probably no more substance to it than just throwing out names and ideas.

Change the name of the thread because the team name has (to be) changed

An early demise for USF1

USF1 would appear to be dead and buried before it even turned a wheel.

Visitors to the new team's website last week, following the press conference at which the project was officially confirmed by Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson, will have discovered the site "unavailable". Subsequently, visitors were redirected to a new site named USGPE.com.

It now appears that the team behind the project has been forced to change the name from USF1 to US Grand Prix Engineering after Formula One Management (FOM) objected to the use of 'F1' in the team's name.

While Windsor was positively gushing in his praise for Bernie Ecclestone following his support of the USF1 project - the Englishman allowed the team to use the official 2008 season film used at the FIA Awards Gala for promotional purposes in terms of investors and sponsors - it will be interesting to hear the reaction at this enforced name change.

With the sport suffering as a result of the global financial crisis, and only nine teams currently confirmed for the season opener, to many this latest move might appear somewhat petty.

Race fans in the United States already have plenty to feel aggrieved about. Other than the fact that F1 is not visiting North America this year for the first time since 1958, many US races fans will remember the shambles that was the 2005 United States Grand Prix, when only six cars took part.

Ecclestone has previously fought, without much success to be honest, to enforce ownership of the term 'Grand Prix'. It remains to be seen whether he feels he also owns 'United States'.

Fucking christ!

FFS FOM, are you that out of touch with reality?
