A new Formula One team is under wraps in America and set to be launched officially later this month, it is reported on Wednesday.

The team, whose logo can be previewed at 'usf1.com', is fronted by F1 stalwart and broadcaster Peter Windsor, and American Ken Anderson, of IndyCar and NASCAR fame but also former Ligier Technical Director.

Briton Windsor, 56, has worked for Williams and Ferrari, but is best known today as a television pundit and writer.

The German website motorsport-total.com claims USF1 intends to make its Grand Prix debut in 2010, and already has the blessing of F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The team will have the slogan 'Made In America' and be headquartered in the heart of NASCAR-country in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Reportedly, an agreement to use the new Windshear wind tunnel in North Carolina is already in place, while USF1 intends to be a showcase for American technology and US-born drivers.

Sounds good this, F1 definitely needs more of a presence in America. It'll be good to see more American drivers in F1 too.

How on earth did they find financial support in the US ?

Oh well, if they succeed it would be great for F1.

What US manufacturer would possibly act as engine supplier for this? Ford may not be on the government leash yet but they certainly won't be doing this while they're trying to sell Volvo.

Back to that old route again. I find it incredibly hard to believe that companies like ford would even have motor racing in their to-do list currently.

Old news (based on some fragile rumours after last years' Canada GP), and won't happen.

If its old news, why as it resurfaced?

Maybe because it's been a boring, slow winter?

I do hope the news are real, but wouldn't put my money on it.

... and just as I go all cynical about this, Autosport reports it. Usually a good indicator that the news are indeed real: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73121

So I don't know what to think anymore. It's starting to sound more solid, but this bit is a little worrying:

Quote:
Although there has been no official announcement about the plans yet, nor an official entry lodged, sources suggest that their bid has been approved by rival Formula One bosses and that they are currently attempting to raise sponsorship funding for the project in America.

Good luck with that.

Haha F1 becomes more and more like A1GP if that is going to happen as we already have Force India.

Nevertheless it would be awesome to have an American team on the grid, sponsors enough in the US only hopefully they find someone who wants to sponsor a F1 team though. And I won´t see this coming of the ground if there won´t be a USGP in 2010.

you can also see it like this: the investors of the US GP can invest in the team if there won't be a US GP, they can now invest in the team if they wish to keep putting their money in F1

Cold day in hell when this happens... I'm a bit cynical. Need more proof that there's some substance here.

Remember Mosley's 5 million engine deal.

He probably assumed this because this team wants to promote US talents and use US technologies.

Sadly American talent in F1 seems very hard to come by, so if they do plan a (maybe not exclusive but mostly) American team, I dont hold out much hope
