I've read that the circuit will undergo renovations for this year's Japanese Grand Prix. What sort of renovations are being undertaken?? Is it a new pitlane or paddock??

Correct on both counts. There was work-in-progress shots somewhere, they basically demolished the whole pitlane and grandstands opposite and rebuilt them. Plus possibly extended run off in other parts of the track.

There's something about the changes here: http://www.rocketpunchautoblog.com/2008 ... going.html

Well that would ruin it pretty bad indeed. I really don't like these run-off areas and it has ruined a lot of tracks already, hopefully not Suzuka as well..

I'm pretty sure it will happen, just like every other track.

It even happened in Sepang! I would have never expected it there. There's plenty of gravel.

Tarmac ruins racing, imo. A prove was Spa this year.

I think last year Spa showed us the other way around. There wouldn't have been such a nice fight without the tarmac. Same as Fuji 2007 with Massa and Kubica.

Am I the only to hate gravel traps. They cause awesome flips but they cause stupid retirements.

I'd rather see a race leader spin into the gravel and retire and cause some excitement. With tarmac you can just run wide and maybe lose a second or 2 and it rarely effects the outcome of the race. If Spa had still been gravel traps then Heidfeld would have won!

I dread to think what they do to Donington :(

Stupid retirements happens because drivers makes stupid mistakes. Imo when you make a mistake, you shouldn't be able to get away with it, even less with "deliberate" mistakes (like cutting a chicane like the last one in Montréal).

:( The zig zaggy part of the circuit looks awesome with gravel.

I rather would see some battles on the track then someone stuck in the gravel trap.

Just take away the anti-stall.

The paddock and pits at Suzuka were very substandard so the new pits and paddock will make it a much more sensible place to work. Hopefully none of the corners are changed in terms of shape.

Yeah because the amount of tarmac runoff is proportional to the amount a on-track battles.

Amost everyone hate the tarmac runoff, but we also know it's safer, most of the times. That means that it's just a matter of time before all graveltraps will be replaced. It's a big shame but that's just the way it is.
