Brundle and Croft to Sky is further punishment to those who'll be stuck with BBC.

I have read that the BBC do have access to the Sky commentary as part of the deal

I don't mind Sky getting Croft, don't like his commentary style. But that means Brundle will not be lead commentator anymore.

Who knows, we might get Ben Edwards on BBC. Only that can make up something for losing 10 live races.

If they want it. The Telegraph article suggests that the BBC are looking into signing Leigh Diffey

Kravitz is also rumoured to be negotiating a move to Sky. Simon Lazenby (Sky's rugby presenter - the producer's also ex-Sky rugby) is likely to be the host

Apparently they're also looking into doing some feature programmes on F1 history which they're trying to rope Rider into presenting. Brundle's also going to be heavily involved with the extra programming as per the terms of his enormous contract

I thought the idea of this shared coverage was pool resources and save money, not employ separate production teams.

I thought that too but then each channel apparently wants that degree of separation, which, given that all the sessions are produced by FOM or Fuji, means a different presenting and punditry team for each. There were initial hints that the commentary team would be shared, and it's a good idea, but I can't see it happening. Plus Sky clearly want to produce the best show possible in order to try and attract people over - they're not just going to rest on their laurels because they've got half the races. They want more viewers than the BBC for all of them, and to be recognised as the home of F1 in Britain

Anyway, the idea of this shared coverage is for the BBC to sneak out the back door while no one's watching or caring. Losing Brundle and employing Leigh Diffey is a good way to start. In fact, I'm surprised they've not re-signed Legard. No doubt the coverage will be properly scaled back too

haha Sky are deluded if they think they can get anywhere near the number of viewers the BBC gets.

I like Leigh Diffey. Thought he was pretty good the last time he was at the BBC (WSBK).

Certainly prefer him to Croft, even with Brundle to prop him up. DC is coming into his own as well, so there's potential.

Fuck it, they could switch Charlie over and pair him up with DC and it'd still be brilliant.

Croft has Tweeted that, contrary to the Telegraph story, he has not yet been offered a job.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Seems The Telegraph has jumped the gun (what a suprise):

Martin stated a desire to race with his sons at Le Mans. I'm going to bet that whoever he is commentating for, he'll have cut a deal to get certain weekends off, something BBC didn't allow for the last 2 seasons.

If he stays with BBC he'll have plenty of weekends of since they only do half the races. Can't see BBC putting their own commentary on highlights, probably use the sky once for those races (that would make sence to me, why have 2 guys commentate on a whole race when only half will be broadcast)

Think BBC have said they'll have a team at every race, if they're going to bother flying out presenters and crew they may as well send out the commentators as well. Will also be fairly disruptive for viewers to have different commentators for half the races - I know this happens in NASCAR but that's a unique situation. At least for next year I think the BBC want to show they're still committed to F1 despite losing some of the coverage, can see the committment reducing after that.

Brundle's tweets are definately implying he's choosing between BBC and Sky, so he should be able to get the terms he wants, including a couple of races off for Le Mans. Think if he wants that tho he'll have to accept not being lead commentator anymore...

As expected. BBC never gave Brundle time off to run Le Mans. I imagine it's in his Sky contract that he can.

He won't be back. They'd put fucking Ted in the booth before him again.
