For a lot of people in the UK, I think it's the principles of buying Sky. Other than that, 10 races will be live on the BBC. The other 10 will be shown a few hours later. Plus the fact there'll be streams and forums and whatnot, I can't afford to pay £500 a year for Sky. So I'll just watch streams or not watch at all.

Yeah well as a casual F1 viewer I think I could even wait for a race replay rather then watching it live if there is no other option. But if you are a die-hard F1 fan such as I am it is worth to afford it. I'm paying more than 600 € a year for my Sky subscription here...

But you get all 20 races, quali and practice with no alternatives, right? I am a diehard fan too, I want to be an F1 journo in the future and be part of the paddock. But for now, with Uni next year, the races such as Australia or Korea are so early I might skip them live. 10 races at £500? You're being ripped off with that.

I work some Sunday's anyway, so perhaps I feel less affected by this than most, that I only see half of the races anyway, I only see the morning qualifyings and I will put going shopping or something ahead of staying in just to wtach Friday practice. Next year we'll just have to organise it so the BBC Live races are the Sunday's I've got off.

Maybe I'm not die hard, but I am willing to wait to see it, rather than fork out for channels I'm not at home to watch.

I think they should have gone with the German TV model of Live FTA coverage alongside a PayTV alternative.

To cut cost's BBC could have scaled back there broadcast, Produce the show from a London studio (Cutting the Pre/Post race shows down to half hour) & only send Ted Kravitz/Lee McKenzie & 2 commentators (Or just use the radio commentary) to the races.

BBC could show qualifying/Races live with just the world feed & no red button extras. The Sky coverage would be more in depth, They would show the full weekend live & interactive with extensive Pre/Post race coverage & additional analysis across the Sky network.

http://www.graphicalhouse.co.uk/#/projects/channel-4

Brochure for what the Channel 4 coverage would have been like. Sounds like it would have been good.

Shame they didn't get it instead of Sky.

Possibly - get the feeling that they'd have stuck adverts in the middle of the race.

I've also seen speculation which suggest's that Channel 4 woudn't have been able to take the coverage untill 2013 although im not sure how accurate that is.

What will happen if Sky's coverage gets very little viewers (like Nascar did, they dropped that quickly). Will they drop it early or sit out the contract until 2018 but just do the race with no build up or something like that?

Not necessarily all of Europe, but British Eurosport is going to be screwwwed..

I'm assuming GP2, GP3, Porsche Supercup etc is gone as its out of contract for them this year anyway...

Renault World Series, WTCC etc should be safe because Eurosport parts owns the series themselves don't they? :?

DTM is shown by ESPN, it's Sprint Cup Premier have rights to, just sayin ;)

Sky is welcome to DTM and Sprint Cup anyway, those and F1 will save the NHS millions in drug costs for insomnia patients.

Patient: "I can't sleep"
Doctor: "I'll give you a prescription for that"
Patient: "(reads prescription) You prescribed me Sundays watching F1/DTM & Nascar on Sky Sports? WTF!"
Doctor: "I'll give you the number for the Samaritans just incase"

Autosport magazine says that Sky intends to show the full support bill; ie: GP2, GP3 and Porsche Supercup
