I just rewatched the race, and what Marko says fits. Ferrari pitted Alonso *far* too early and left him with 26 laps on the crap tyres, and no chance of another pit stop. The only sensible strategy for Alonso at that point was to keep ahead of Webber by reacting to his pit calls and pitting on the same lap as him.

It seems they really did react to something.

Woops. Is it in the regulations that you can't listen to other team radio's ?

I think only FOM has full access, and what they broadcast on TV is what the teams can hear. I don't think you can have access to the full radio chat of another team.

They are free to FOM who choose what to broadcast, but they broadcast with a delay so strategies like pitting are not immediately available.

Which means if Ferrari are listening in then they're doing it by illegal means.

Not the first time Ferrari have fucked up by reacting to Red Bull's strategy calls. Ha

If Ferrari's radio communications say something like "Red Bull are coming in this lap, come in aswell", then they're fucked.

Talking about that GP, we haven't heard a lot of team orders yet this year even though they are allowed now.

I said something the other day about heads rolling at Ferrari. Well the first one has rolled - Aldo Costa has left the team.

edit: He has stepped down from his role and will continue in another capacity. Still...

It had to happen really. The rear wing issue in Spain was just absurd. It wasn't even a loop hole, the wing was 100% illegal because it violated the maximum height of bodywork, and Ferraris argument (that it was a gurney flap), still makes it illegal even if it was correct.

The fact that wing got thought of, designed, approved, manufactured, shipped to a race, and fitted to a car, is a complete joke. Not one of the senior team seemed to notice it wasn't going to be allowed during the development process.

FIA introduced a "three-strike" grid penalty, which means that, if a driver gets 3 reprimands, they get a 5-place grid penalty.

I guess thats sensible. But I don't understand some reprimands and the differences between them. I mean, Hamilton, Button & Webber got a reprimand on Sunday. But the FIA say they didn't break the rules else they would have gotten a 20s penalty. So why the reprimand?

same for d'Ambrosio a while back, got a penalty for "ignoring" a yellow flag in FP

Hamilton and Button set their fastest times under yellow flags during the race, and they only get a reprimand

seems like you have to become a WDC to avoid penalties from the FIA

Why wasn't he thrown out of the race?

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
