Hi, I suggest we have a nice and calm transitional thread from the epic season of 2008 to 2009.
A lot will change as you know, with the KERS mechanism entering, all the little wings being removed and the reintroduction of slick tyres.

The calendar for the car launches is still at it's early stages.
We have this so far

Renault: expected from January 7 onwards
Toyota: January 16 (Keulen)
BMW: January 20 (Valencia)

The next tests to be conducted are from 17 to 19 november on Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Discus

From autosport
Quote:
they were unable to keep up the development of their car and slipped away from the pace of their title rivals over the second half of the campaign.

That area is viewed as key if BMW Sauber are to fight for the world championship next year - and Theissen says he has little doubt the team will get to grips with exactly what they need to do to ensure there is no repeat in 2009.

"We are now in the process of analyzing it," said Theissen about the development issue. "We will do that in the same way we did it earlier this year, when the initial performance of the car was not satisfying.

"I am sure we will get on top of it in order to have a steeper development curve again. Last year was good in terms of in-season development, so there is no reason why we should not be strong again."

Theissen believes the early work the team did on their 2009 car was not a factor in hindering their progress over the course of this season.

"No. Definitely not," he explained. "We ran both programmes in parallel and the key issue is that some projects which showed an advantage in simulation as well as the wind tunnel did not prove to be an advantage on the track. That is what we have to analyse."

This is a serious problem, BMW really needs to solve it. It's the main reason why Honda is not competitive, what I mean is, Barrichello says what they do on CFD and wind tunnels never matchs the real thing in track. If BMW wants to be a top team next year this can't go on.
Hope they can solve it during this winter tests.

The car they run during the last stint of the season looked like a car that could compete in the 2009 season without the dumbo wings :whistling:

I hope they have a different livery. I didn't like this year's one at all. 2007 was better in my opinion.

(belga/dea)

Engines will have to last three GPs in 2009, instead of the current format of two

a second big news of the day

Quote:
Chinese GP moves to April date

By Steven English Wednesday, November 5th 2008, 14:52 GMT

The Chinese Grand Prix will become the third round of the 2009 world championship under the latest version of next season's Formula One calendar.

An amended schedule was agreed at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris today.

The Shanghai race moves from its previous October date to 19 April, with the Bahrain Grand Prix consequently moving back one week.

The alteration allows the championship to finish earlier, as the Brazil and Abu Dhabi races have now been moved forward by a fortnight, with the latter now scheduled for 1 November.

Despite talks between Montreal officials and Bernie Ecclestone, it appears there has been no progress regarding the future of the Canadian Grand Prix, so the calendar remains at 17 races.

2009 FIA Formula One World Championship

29/3 Australia
5/4 Malaysia
19/4 China
26/4 Bahrain
10/5 Spain
24/5 Monaco
7/6 Turkey
21/6 Great Britain
12/7 Germany
26/7 Hungary
23/8 Europe (Valencia)
30/8 Belgium
13/9 Italy
27/9 Singapore
4/10 Japan
18/10 Brazil
1/11 Abu Dhabi

True, but it's a shame that Montreal isn't on that list.
