Why was it bumped to 10 in 1991?

IMO (although I can't remember if this was officially given as a reason) it was because they also scrapped the "best 11 results only" method at the same time, and felt (rightly) that a downside of counting all results is that it would put too much emphasis on safe consistent finishes - hence they restored the balance by offering an extra point for the win too.

He only won one more race. It wasn't like he won 7 and Hamilton won 4. The race wins is counted in a championship if you have a draw. Which we nearly had for a few seconds on Sunday.

I don't believe most wins = champion of the year. I do believe consistency should be rewarded.

In my opinion the race wins for the year should have been even due to some strict ruling one side and just fines on the other (Valencia I believe - same offense later received the drive through penalty...).

So the championship had some irregularities that I believe make the face value of the wins vs points argument void.

The current system is the best of the two listed.

I don't think you could compare current championship results using old scoring methods. Drivers and teams race around the points system, meaning they might not take that much of a risk to win a race and claim those two extra points. Whereas in the past that risk was worth taking.

I want a victory to remain 10 points, but the gap with P2 should be a little bit bigger. I like this one..

1: 10 pt.
2: 7 pt.
3: 5 pt.
4: 4 pt.
5: 3 pt.
6: 2 pt.
7: 1 pt.

And 1 point for pole position, but only when the stupid fuel-rule is gone.

^^^all podium finisher should get some unique increment over finishers below him. And as grid is of 20 cars at least 8 should get points ...which also is vital under current revenue share structure of F~O~M IMO

This is how this year's season would look with that points system. Judging by the results, I'd imagine Toyota, and Japan in general, will be joining your campaign! Button and Raikkonen remain as hapless as ever.

Code:
 01. Webber       3,000,452.1415926

 02. Glock        2,000,744.1415926
 03. Trulli       2,000,420.2831853
 04. Nakajima     2,000,089.1415926
 05. Bourdais     2,000,000

 06. Massa        1,005,140.1415926
 07. Hamilton     1,005,128
 08. Alonso       1,003,891.1415926
 09. Kubica       1,002,294.2831853
10. Kovalainen   1,001,771
11. Piquet       1,000,460.1415926
12. Barrichello  1,000,008.1415926

13. Coulthard      999,975
14. Vettel           4,534.2831853
15. Räikkönen        2,532.1415926
16. Heidfeld           927.2831853
17. Rosberg            191
18. Fisichella           0
19. Sutil                0
20. Sato                 0
21. Davidson             0
22. Button              —6.8584072

Amusingly, Massa and Hamilton remain virtually inseparable even with a novelty points system.

Well it doesn't matter since F1 might follow Bernie's idiotic medal system, and why are the teams agreeing with this (like Bernie supposedly said)?

Yeah Mika Kimi that's true.Just kill Bernie or get the FIA out the F1.

one of the reasons that the cars are more realible is the point system now if you finish all the races you win more than with the other system

I think the biggest reason for the improved reliability is the new long life components & also stuff like the 18,000Rpm Rev-Limit which puts less stress on the engine & drivetrain. Also the limitation of the various electronics systems means there's a little less to go wrong in that area as well.

Proof that Bernie isn't interested in medals themselves but just wants the guy with the most wins to be champion

Still a crap idea

Medals are crap. If it was a good idea other series would have introduced it but I don't know any series where medals are standard.

I'm used to the 10-08 ... system as I didn't follow F1 before 2003. And I'm satisfied with it. If I had to make an improvement I would give the winner 11 points to create a 3-point gap to the runner up.

He still hasn't cottoned onto the idea of making the points differential between first and second bigger again, has he? I mean, we all clocked that... er... four years ago? Five?

Why they don't use common sense. 12-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 is brilliant for today's F1 I would say.

+ Q3 with fumes would give a lot to great F1 racing.
