I'm with the person who said give it to the person who wins the most races, winning races is the point of it afterall.

Failing that, the 10-6-4-3-2-1 system was very good, rewarded the top finishes, rewarded the winner, and none of this pay-to-8th business....

I prefer the current system, seems to provide closer title race, and F1 is entertainment first and foremost.

Been watching for 12 years but can't really decide whether the old was one better or the current system.It's fair to say that the old system rewarded the winner more which makes more sense.But look how it turned out to be this year So I'd keep it as it is...

So they want to make the wins more important do they? Well Bernie is raking in the cash so why not keep the current points system but award $100,000 for every second the leader finishes in front of the second place guy. Gives everyone all the more incentive to push like buggary and possibly make a mistake or two along the way. But then again i forgot that Bernie is a tight arse so this system wont work.

Cars are so reliable nowadays that the mid-field to tail end teams rarely get into the top 6 anymore due to the unreliability of the top teams (remember the Onyx and Scuderia Italia teams getting freak podiums?). Because of this fact points to top 8 cars is the fairest. I would possibly consider paying points for the top 10 but only if there were 22 or 24 cars in the field.

The reliabiliy of modern cars is good reason why it's good to have points for more. Only six races had more than five retirements this year, and only one had "old time" retirement count (Melbourne with 15)

I think the top 8 aspect needs to remain because of today's reliability of the cars. Would like to see the winner's points increase away from 2nd a bit though. Also, make it a 2 point gap between being 3rd and on the podium, and 4th and not. Essentially, I'm proposing a 12-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 system.

You didn't read page 2 either as I had already made the same point about keeping current points system because of the reliability of the cars...

In 2002 the argument was that there was too much of a difference between 1st and 2nd.

Just bump the winner's score to 11.

Why was it bumped to 10 in 1991?

I think it was to give the winner more of a difference to second place.

There should keep the current system and there should also be selected races when with 2 laps left, they let a fan from the grandstands to take a ball out of a bag that contain the place which will be awarded with 20 points, and then they communicate the teams which place it is. Should be fun to see everybody trying to end 12th to get those 20 points.
