Lewis Hamilton won the world title in 2008 with all the merits, but became the first driver to be benefited by the rule of scores established by the FIA in 2003. From 1960 to 2002, the Formula 1 used to reward with the first six points on the races, with slight variation in points of the winner (in 1961 and rose to 9 in 1991 to 10).

In 2003, however, the FIA decided to focus on the first eight placed, causing the most radical change in the rules of punctuation in the history of the category. Since then, the score had not influenced the definition of a title, until today. If the championship was current covered by traditional 10-6-4-3-2-1, Felipe Massa would have been the champion, with 83 points. Lewis Hamilton would have been second, with 80.

As the current rules favor the regularity at the expense of victory, palms to Hamilton and the McLaren, who made a season exactly as needed, even winning the title without having won the largest number of races.

For modern F1, out of those 2, the current one. The old system just wouldn't work now

But they do need more points between first second and third.

The modern one is better, it makes the championships closer.

This link has many stats to prove it.

9-6-4-3-2-1 was better than 10-6-4-3-2-1 but it the point system should reward drivers down to 8th place. Give 11pts to winner, just as much a random number as 9.

What about additional points for Pole Positions and Fastest Laps?

I would be interested by this one.

Maybe the pole position could be awarded, too.

 Nothing more, nothing less. PP and FL doesn't need points, they should only be given for the race.

You know that would not work.

Normally yes and in Ecclestone/Mosley's eyes yes, but I fear it will make the races unpredictable as midfielders will do qualifying with 5 or 6 laps of fuel for the race.
Championship contestants qualify around 5 or 6 and are in the danger zone of turn 1.
Or imagine a final race with a 10 point advantage. Soft tyres, just enough fuel to do the formation lap on sunday and the title is decided before the millions of people turn their TV on...
So we should get rid of parc fermé conditions after qualifying that we have the fastest man on pole position and not the one with the least amount of fuel who got a flyer together

Apart from that I'd prefer the old DTM point system
20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 with the following addition
+ 1 - Pole Position
+ 1 - Fastest Lap
+ 1 - Highest Climber

I think it's good to have the top 8 scoring points, gives the chance to smaller teams to gather points. As pointed out by others it would be a good idea to keep the system as it is, only giving 12 points to the winner.

That's what i've been thinking. But still some think that the guy who get the pole (as it used to be until 2002) is going to rape the field on sunday, which it's not, as getting rid of the parc fermé conditions would somehow force the return of a warm up session in sunday's morning, where some teams who didn't got the perfect qualifying setup on saturday could find a better setup for the race than the guy on pole.

The old one is better. Two points difference between nr.1 and nr. 2 is too small. You should get a bigger reward for finishing first. So, or the old points system, or the current one with 11 points or 12 for the winner.

This is just the current system multiplied by 2.

Yes, so it makes winning twice as important.

Not only that, it's a eco-friendly system, in that drivers can score twice as many points without having to complete a 36 race season in order to do so.
