The event was moved forward to avoid just this scenario too. Oh well, pencil in a safety car start. Also no car has done laps on the wets this year

Tokyo resident here, the weather has just been terrible the last couple of months. Unseasonally cold, heaps of rain and constant near gale force winds. Coming after and unseasonally warm winter. The fabled cherry blossoms haven't even started to bud when they should almost be at peak bloom.

With F1's aversion to racing in the wet, there isn't going to be much running.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but Mika Hakkinen's daughter Ella is proving she's pretty quick! I always thought he only had the one son Hugo, but turns out he's got 5 kids!

Latest GFS model run shows no rain this weekend. So I doubt that forecast you posted.

McLaren has reshuffled its Formula 1 team's technical structure as technical director David Sanchez has left the Woking squad after just three months.

Sanchez joined McLaren from Ferrari in January among a series of hires to augment the team's engineering staff, but it became apparent that his duties as the technical director in charge of concept and performance were "not aligned" to those discussed previously.

Team principal Andrea Stella will thus assume Sanchez's duties in the interim, as the team searches for a replacement to head up the performance side of the team.

Yep, just 3 months. Not exactly sure how McLaren are planning to move forward if you only keep your technical director for 3 months, but then again I'm not one of these business geniuses that are in charge of F1 teams now.

Max has stated jokingly that his father is "starting a Soccer team" as he has 5 kids now.

I looked up other drivers to see which other drivers were root rats on the grid, Piquet Sr. has 6 as well (if I can read his wiki correctly), but reading his wikipedia I learnt a few things I never knew about him that I found fascinating

Quote:
Piquet revealed that he had never been right after his accident at Imola in 1987. The crash caused him to lose some 80% of his depth perception...

...after 1987 he drove for the money as due to his condition

Also, I knew he said horrible things about Lewis and Ayrton, but I didn't know that it resulted in this...

Quote:
As of July 2022, Piquet has been banned from the F1 paddock

Yepp, he was a mechanic before a driver, never lost his dirty mouth.

back in 2019 I translated this old interview from 1993 where he shares his thoughts on the matter after his near ending career crash at Indy

Quote:
GRID: Nelson, once you said that men was born to breed. How many children do you have?

PIQUET: Humm… (wondering) I have five: Geraldinho, Nelsinho, Laszlo, Kelly e Julia. From three different women: Maria Clara, Silvia e Catherine. [Note from Lucas: two of his sons were born years after the release of this interview, so he's father of seven]

GRID: Looks like you're closed for business…

PIQUET: Are you insane? Is just the beggining (laughs).

Vettel is having talks with Mercedes for a possible return to F1.

If some old dudes can continue, someone can come back from retirement and Sainz doesn´t find a seat, there would be something wrong

He openly joked about Senna being gay. Probably in part because of the beef both had in the past. But judging the time of the ban, probably his remarks on Hamilton (and this no longer being Bernie's business but Liberty's) were what caused him to be banned.

The only thing a rusty and washed Vettel can bring that Sainz can't is awareness and a some cash from his fanbase. Such a comeback would be bad news. Not only because of Sainz, but also because there seems to be a lot of talent coming from F2 and this would mean one seat less for them too.

that will only makes sense if Sainz ask a big load of money, more than Vettel could ask and even that is not feasible considering Vettel will be two whole seasons out of F1 and that he only wins if he starts on the front row, so he's depending of a revolution at Mercedes
