I am a little excited for this race. Not sure if it's the unknown of a new track, or just anticipating the inevitable car crash that this event will be.

It's going to be cringe, isn't it?

My gut says it will either be a boring non-eventful parade or we're watching a trainwreck in slow motion.

I hope they call Michael Buffer to present the drivers to the grid just like he did in Austin some years ago

now some pre-race facts because I know you guys love that

.1st race in western US since 1991 (US GP at Phoenix)

.1st race in Las Vegas since 1982 Caesar's Palace GP

.1st points paying GP to be held on a saturday since 1985 (South African GP)

.1st time since 1982 also that the US holds 3 different points paying GP
-last time was Italy in 2020

.2nd time a milestone race is a night race (first was 2008 Singapore GP, the 800th GP)

.Las Vegas also hosted the final ground effect F1 race until 2022 Bahrain GP

Despite all the shenanigans going on in the background, lot of old men yelling at clouds level cynicism, I'm really looking forward to this.

And if it's shit, I'll be :drunk: anyway.

If you're in Melbourne, Sunday afternoon, head to the Imperial Hotel (Bourke Street), few F1 podcasts have got together to get a crowd and make an audience out of it.

Despite all the criticism, turning the Las Vegas Strip into a race track is a mighty fine achievement.

Me too, F1 running down the Strip is fucking awesome and I don't know why there's so much cynicism surrounding it

I think we're neglecting to ask the really tough questions here?
Spoiler:
Like, is racing around a giant multi-colored boil/cancerous lump/boob more or less cringe than a fake marina in a carpark?

“The race will be around the Sphere. So we're utilising their property. We will own all the advertising on the Sphere for the duration of the race for a fixed fee.

“We have bundled that into some [sponsorship] deals, and also sold advertising directly to parties during the race, which will defray part of our costs. It was a necessary cost for us, because we need to be on their land.

“But, in addition, it was a revenue opportunity for us to lease as I said, or sublease, the time on the Sphere.

Can the sphere please have a "Bernie says you shouldn't drive drunk" advertisement spinning around it

(I think the sphere looks amazing)

Because this race makes absolutely clear that it is first about the money, second about the show, and only 7th or something about the racing.
So people who will watch it for the racing, fear that that aspect will be shit. It should be on top priority, in Vegas it won´t be. So who can get excited for that?

Does my memory fail me, or did the final corner at Imola need to be reprofiled for F1 to avoid being the same sort of angle as the final corner here?

I think the difference is that in Imola you had a small strip of grass, so crashed cars would bounce back to the track. But here I think they will just slide along the wall like in oval if something happens. Also, I don't think the angle is exactly the same.

interesting, they put a chicane on that fast flowing corner so they can place another grandstand

funny that this could impact on tire temps

This tyre concerns are kinda freaking me out. There's a good chance that they could blow mid-straight. As the tarmac cools the surface of the tyre, but the high speeds warms the air pressure.

This circuit is wide as hell, 6km long and has 4 overtaking opportunities, what do you mean racing is the 7th thing on the priority list? It's arguably got the most overtaking opportunities on a race track in on street circuit we've ever raced on.

And F1 has always been about the money, they've had no problem excepting oil or blood stained money in the past, doesn't matter if its the US, Middle East or Australasia so why is Vegas any different?

What makes this particular race more about the money, and less about the racing, than any other new race introduced in the last 20 years?

Also don't understand the complaints about "the show". Should F1 be looking to introduce deliberately boring events?
