FORMULA 1 SECOND PRACTICE SESSION 13:30 - 14:30

Guess they still haven't finalized the schedule. Can't even find the schedule on F1TV website. It's just blank.

Expecting more chaos and (unnecessary) red flag calls by Wittich. Australian GP must have gotten so many Tweets and Tik Tok posts, that they want to replicate it. I can hear them think: "Screw all remaining sporting aspects, F1 is now a money-making show."

At least there's F2 this weekend. Despite reverse grids and DRS, it's still close to pure formula racing.

3 options for the sprint race, from most likely to unimaginable:

1. boring as hell like always because nobody will take the risk
2. mayhem with crashes, red flags, chaos and the ban of sprint races forever
3. tense racing with lots of action

As for the main race: we have had incredibly dull editions, we've had fantastic editions, so I don't know. I like the high speed, but there are not many places where you can actually try something.

Oh, and: Easy win for Verstappen unless his car fails.

I still don't give a flying fuck about the "exciting" sprint rules. Sprint shootout qualifying. Nothing I need in life more than this...

I hope some backmarker teams just park it during the sprint. They have no chance to score points, and since sprint does not set the grid for Sunday anymore, what is the point in doing 100km extra distance on your engine to finish p17 in the sprint? I don't even know how many drivers get points in the sprint, I'm imagining almost everybody outside the top 10 will park it after 2 or 3 laps when the field is settled into the race

Welcome to the start and park era of F1.

I'd expect the FIA would try and fine them to kingdom come if they did that. I remember some V8 supercar teams, when the AGP was a non-points race, would start from the pitlane and trundle around at the back, well off the back of the pack, just to save money.

they can always mess up the setup for the sprint and claim they're facing "hydraulic problems"

and is a chronic issue that only happens during sprint races

Just like a team that parks during Q3 because they know they can't go any further than P10.

Not bothering to do a lap in Q2 or Q1 is actually a common habbit amongst a lot of drivers

Pretty sure there was a rule brought in that cars must prove they had some kinda problem to justify their retirement at the start of the "1 engine for 2 races" era when people worried those teams not in the points would just park the car to save their engine.

IIRC Brundle or someone makes a joke about it when Jenson parks after his engine blow up in Australia 06 on the final corner that he won't have to justify that retirement to the FIA

Could be misremembering though...

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023

If I remember correctly, Button could have finished the Australian GP but then he would have to serve a penalty for the next race for changing the engine. If he retired during the GP (as in stop before the finish line), he would not get that penalty.

I have not read this post, and I am not up to date with the latest developments, but I went to check the FP and qualy times for tomorrow and Saturday, respectively and I'm very confused. Am I the only one or am I getting old? Serious question, not trolling.

Well, that is one toasty Alpine. Be a bit more than an engine gone up in smoke.

Marshals were slow to respond in putting out that fire.
