Aston have to count their lucky stars though, especially Stroll, who fucked his own race over completely on his own, and got a gimme the like of which I've never seen before outside of Flashbacks on the Playstation F1 games

Still love the changes to the track though, this place is a flat out blast now and I'm all for it

Anyway, interesting start, long boring section, shitty end. 5/10 race

For me this was a good race. Lots of overtaking all race long. And because it seems overtaking is now possible again, I did not fear a "close racing but why bother cause they won´t be able to overtake" scenario and was genuinely excited about the battle from 2nd to 5th. Hamilton did a great job keeping Alonso out of DRS range, they all drove like hell every single lap and it was nice to see. If you call that boring, you didn´t pay attention.

The red flags were ridiculous though, it unnecessary destroyed Alpine´s race.

That was simultaneously a good and totally asinine race.

For all their flaws, WTCR actually figured out what to do with SC's. Adding race laps to the end seems to be the best way to deal with this and avoid these farces.

Don´t get me started on WTCR. I once watched a race weekend that had two races with in total 23 laps. 21 of them were behind SC, including both final laps. A farce only topped by Spa 2021.

Wow, I fell asleep, so I just finished watching the race, and WTF was that finish? They restarted just to finish under safety car? Why bother, or better yet, why not actually restart for a one lap shootout? Oh, and Leclare is a fucking muppet.

It’s as if F1 looked at last week’s NASCAR race at Austin and felt uncontrollable jealousy instead of superiority.

Haas protest dismissed.

I'm torn on the rules. A standing restart obviously has a greater chance of mixing things up and creating drama, but it doesn't seem fair when there's only a few laps to go.

The other option is to throw the red and then restart behind the Safety Car. We still get a proper finish that way. The problem with this, is that everyone can change tyres during the red flag. You would likely end up with everyone on the same tyre and not seeing much action. I really want to see the rule changed so that the teams can't do anything to the cars under a red flag. However, if everyone has driven through debris, is it a safety issue to not allow them to change tyres? (Maybe make it so you can change but have to stay on the same compound?)

That first red flag was still a stupid decision as well.

I'd say in certain circumstances, letting them change tyres as a precaution is needed, but only to the same compound. That way earlier in the race they're still going to need to change compounds during the race. Last thing we want is a puncture leading to a big crash because they chose track position having run through a debris field.

Seeing the replays and seeing the metal shards go everywhere it was understandable, they just restarted the race the wrong way.

First red could have been done under SC easy.

The manipulation of the result of the 2021 championship definitely made the FIA hostage to itself, when it used the “false argument” of having to finish the races under a green flag to carry out the fraud. Now we have to watch ridiculous shows like Melbourne, it will probably always be like this given the incompetence of the federation. A shame.

All teams have scored points already. This does not happen every season, and certainly not after 3 races.

So the start to McLaren's year has been disastrous. And after three races they are 5th in the constructors. I'd argue Alpine's start has been even worse considering all the talk they were doing in the off season.

Either leave the order as it was after all the carnage and finish the race like that, or take the order from before the restart and go back to the start of lap 57 and try again. They can't say lap 57 happened but take the order from before it as if it didn't.

Watching it back, it’s even more galling that race direction’s IMMEDIATE reaction to their second red flag wiping out half the field was “ooooh, let’s try to do it again!” Garbage, scandalous, inexcusable officiating.
