the weekend was quite uneventful, thought things could ramp in the race with flips and big air. At least we got some good passing

One thing I thought weird is that Hamilton even with better tires failed to pass or secure a switch with Russell

No, Hamilton was 5.2 behind Russell.

Since Merc kept going on about 5 seconds I wonder if they didn't tell Hamilton to keep pushing as well :slaphead:

Shame. It´s not that the incorrect starting position gained him an advantage.

Also interesting to note that McLaren is going backwards on a daily basis, looking like a train wreck

The fuck were the stewards doing all race? It took them that long to decide on Alonso's penalty?

Apart from the jack, a mechanic held the halo and another one was holding on to the tyre.

I have a simple question: why are these two issues suddenly a problem? Grid positioning and penalty serving. Nobody has been penalised for this in the past decade, and we had dozens of starts and pit penalties. What changed?

Regardless, both penalties are fucking ridiculous. Not just saying this because it's hitting Alonso. None of the two events gave him an advantage, there should be some common sense instead of applying the letter of the law.

Well you have to be in the grid box, most of the time the drivers are within it but today Alonso was really far out of it.

As for the penalty infringement, it's always been don't touch the car until its served. They've always managed it before so no idea why its suddenly so difficult for them.

the main change is netflix

I guess this kind of stuff should be dealt with fines and not with a result changing penalty

Yeah, this car-touching-during-penalties thing is particularly weird to see two races in a row.

Alonso: I don´t care. I had the champagne, I had the trophy and the celebrations. The only difference for me is that I have 12 points instead of 15.

It seems like they're cracking down on this sort of thing (commentators mentioned this when lots of F2 and F3 teams got penalties for grid procedure infringements in Bahrain). As long as the teams have been warned in advance that they're cracking down, I don't have a problem with it - I mean, what's the point in painting a grid box if you can just choose your own? This stuff is black and white and I think it's actually better if common sense doesn't come into it. Just follow the rules.

My only issue is with the time it takes to decide on these penalties.

Another issue with the gridbox thing is that it may cause the jump start sensors to not work properly.
