Yup. New teams where promised a budget cap. IIRC it was even in place but the existing teams bitched and cried so hard it got scrapped.

People crying they will be 2 seconds off pace should look into F1's history more. There have been days where the Top 4 in qualifying was seconds apart.

The current teams simply dont want to share so we're heading for a new power struggle as Ben seems to be interested in letting new teams enter.

That's right, and I'm pretty sure the scrapping of that killed the Prodrive plans, at least.

Reading more about the reaction to the Andretti announcement, it seems clear that the teams are more interested in 'the show' and their money from it than they are the sport. Toto's comments in particular show how Mercedes seem to view F1 as an investment they made as a car company, which is a bit extreme given how many times various teams threaten to simply walk away.

It feels like the top teams decided at some point that, rather than forcing Ferrari to lose their special deal, they should get their own ones too.

I really wonder how tight knit the current F1 grid is in regards to teams.

Back in the days you could walk into a competitors pitbox and they'd let you borrow a spanner or whatever but now it feels like a giant me me me me situation.

I feel that the constructors have too much power and money. There should be some cuts and if you don't like just leave it because there are many more interested teams willing to race

on the other hand the championship is bloated like never before and is burning out staff so there are no good guys here

The answer to this one seems to be that the teams are angry about GM's plan to simply rebadge a Honda or Renault engine, and so are pushing to ban that practice.

back in the day that would be so simple, GM just simply buy a manufacturer like Hart or Zytek and push their way through

All but one teams are against Andretti joining. Only Renault/Alpine is in favor

Fuck them all. I hope Ben now allows Andretti, panthera and a 3rd team in.

:x
For any existing team who opposed new teams, they should start the season with -50 points as a penalty until 2030, and all new teams have +50 points. Sucks to be those bosses, who were against.

Andretti can pay the 200m? Let’s demand he has a manufacturer behind him. Oh he has one? Let’s limit rebadging options. And to be extra sure demand 600-700m entry fee

Some teams also want the entry fee raised to $500 million.

At this point Mo needs to find another 4 new teams alongside Andretti and Panthera, offer them all free entry into the 2026 championship, and tell the retards to squabble over the remaining 7 places (with a silent ban on any entry from Brackley).

I'm pretty sure if someone offers Toto part of his share for a 9 figure value he accepts with no regrets

is funny that Mercedes wants to be the 21st century Ferrari but lacks the tradition and a grumpy old man to make pressure (Lauda was that one but he sadly passed away)

Lauda would have litterally dragged Toto baby by his hair and made him beg Andretti to join.

man, since Lauda died that team really went from bad to worse on the likeable front.

Marca reports that both Wittich and Freitas have been given their papers.

I hope they know what they're doing, otherwise they will out of race directors. Who's left anyway? Even F2's RD was sacked last year.
Surely they can't bring Masi back? Yet, if drama for Netflix matters, that's what they do. F1TV will have a dedicated audio track that broadcasts radio messages between Toto and Masi.

buy the contract of someone from the teams perhaps, or put very questionable people to do the job like Flavio Briatore I guess

It'd be funny to see him doing decisions to favor Alonso after all these years

Ricciardo and Piastri, spotted together driving around in eastern Melbourne

Not really relevant to the story, but that photo in the article, was taken on the street I grew up on. I grew up in a house on the other side of those fences in the background.

Busy road. No road cricket for you as a kid then. Unless you were a kid in the 80's & 90's before helicopter parents became a thing.

Thankfully the backyard was big enough for cricket. I bombed a few sixes that landed about where Oscar's McLaren is though.

Funnily enough, Oscar, unless he got his drivers license outside of Australia, technically isn't allowed to drive that car on the roads, as he'd be a P-Plater who has car restrictions.
