Going after all the big issues I see.

But why not just issue a clarification instead of a penalty threat? As much as I like to heap scorn on the FIA and its Stewarding, I can actually kinda see why they are saying this, especially with some of the photos of the mechanics leaning very far over. But why not just say "you can't climb to the top as it is a safety issue". Why does everything have to be as a penalty threat?

And why doesn't each track have what is in place at Melbourne? The clear perspex for better spectator viewing. I assume that it is FIA approved for safety grounds. That seems like a much better solution than the metal fences.

so classic scenes like these ones would deny Senna's first victory because race stewards might shiver just by remembering this classic (and dangerous) moment

That was fucking dangerous though, Mansell comes across this and nearly loses it just a few moments later

I can see why the FIA are doing this, the safety fences probably aren't rated for 20/30 guys clambering all over it at the same place and the weight that brings

I'm sure they'll find other ways to celebrate.

I agree, always wondered if someone slipped onto to track during celebrations while there are cars side by side

I miss the flagman on the track though

Was there ever an accident involving celebrating teams members or a chequered flag man? I mean, it's certainly dangerous if something goes wrong, but did anything go wrong ever?

In the past, I think there was much more trust that "nah, nothing will go wrong". Nowadays there's a constant fear that one-in-a-million risk will happen, so precautionary measures must be taken. Of course, that doesn't apply to the risk of slow cars during the qualifying. So FIA is quite selective with their fears.

The finish of Le Mans 2 or 3 years ago could have been nasty, as two LMP2 cars were fighting until the very last second, and almost took out the flagman on track.

At the '85 Monaco F3 race the flagman was hit:

Spoiler:

The clip (from French TV news?) mentions "un miracle" so I guess he got out OK.

There's also that famous motorbike crash on the Jeremy Clarkson Motorsport Mayhem video where two bikes get tangled together on the immediate green light and hook themselves into the very low starters rostrum. Think it was a street course.
I'll see if I can find the clip but as I don't know anything about bikes, it's a bit of a shot in the dark.

The Hesketh looked pretty close to the flag men here as well.

I remember that from my old Havoc 13 VHS! Pretty sure it's one of those Irish road racing circuits. Think it might be at the North West 200.

The morons who ran on the track at Silverstone last year and tried to glue themselves to it got a combination of community service or suspended sentences today. Just Stop Oil said they were delighted with the lenient sentence, I’m sure that’ll deter them from doing it again.

The story is also being burried so deep you’d have more chance of unearthing Lord Lucan than it, only GBNews are covering it on air.

SMH.

I'd forgotten about that. I didn't actually realise there was footage of the whole thing. I wonder if they were aware that the race had been stopped, or would they have sat on the track with cars going by at racing speed? Idiots.

some pages ago someone put Domenicali wanting to put less practice, I guess they are doing this year with the sprint races. Qualifying for the race on sunday will be held at friday afternoon (the qualifying for sprint today) and the qualifying for the sprint race will be held saturday morning in that model from 2003-05 with one lap for everyone

They probably thought the race was stopped because of their heroic action...or since I'm sure they don't the rules, they thought it was just another warm-up lap.

One lap qualifying. Sigh. :slaphead: I know what would happen. There's going to be changeable conditions, it will be a fiasco and everyone is outraged. And I'm sure that the fans at the trackside prefer seeing 20 cars do multiple hotlaps for a full hour than witness just one car going past per 3 minutes.

Again. Stop fixing things that don't need fixing. They waste so much mental capacity (lol) and time for things that shouldn't be touched upon. Channel your energy into things that matter, pleeeeease. :slaphead:

about that qualifying I wonder how things will work given how drivers are doing damn slow out laps

since they come out just after the driver on a fast lap start his attempt that could lead to many block penalties

All this happening and the starting proccedure wasn't aborted? That's so weird!

They went on after the the start had already happened.

The really pathetic thing about them is they're bankrolled by a bored big oil heiress.

LOL so true. I think their plan was to get on the track in between lap 1 and 2 to force a big media thing, but because of the shunt their timing was all wrong and their little protest fizzled out and nobody took much notice of them, we, to included were much more interested in the car stuck between the barrier and fence. I know for many people they didn’t even know about this protest until then next day.
