How do you become unpopular in F1?

Win...

Dominate and you're the most unpopular of all. Red Bull will be taking the hatred crown back this season after Mercedes took it from them in 2014.
I've been at this too long to think that people will be ok with Red Bull dominating again and just be all "oh well, at least Mercedes isn't winning, I loved that Red Bull 1-2 by 30 seconds!! (mind you if they did, they'd me massive hypocrites after bitching about Mercedes doing the same for 2014-2016, 2019-2020)

Doesn't matter who is doing the dominating, they're always the bad guys

Well, hypocrite I am. I don't dislike Mercedes because they won, I dislike Mercedes because of Hamilton and Wolfe. Insufferable twats. Unquestioned skill, but twats all the same.

That's the thing about F1, it's twats all the way down.....you just replace one set of twats with another set of twats with each regulation change

This cuts to the core of my issue with F1 at the moment... I just don't have any strong desire to support any one team. I know there are no nice guys in competition, but every team at the moment is led by two-faced sociopaths that would say anything to get the slightest whiff of an advantage, backed by corporate monoliths that don't really stand for anything beyond shareholder returns. If the form book suddenly got flipped and a backmarker started winning, it would be refreshing for a few races, then it would just be another set of twats saying more generic or terrible things to the media to further their own interests. The closest I come to backing a team atm is the hope Andretti will be on the grid at some point, just to piss every other team on the grid off.

Mercedes domination was quite ok at the beginning, since there was a fierce battle for the championship. But then that master twat ran away from the fight after he won the title and they became just another team not allowing anyone else to win

The trick I worked out very early on in my F1 watching career is to realise we're not here to watch a soap opera of personalities arguing pre/post race. I take it as read they'll all see things from their own perspective and only do what is good for their team, not the sport itself (how this sport hasn't gone full CART/IRL at any point is a mystery to me because they're far more self involved and myopic than any other sports teams on the planet, IMO)

All I care about and will judge them over is their performance between the green and chequered flag (yes, even their performance on the parade lap ;) )
It's a motorsport, not a reality show.

Pre-Post race is good for memes or jokes about the podium procedure or whatever, but the interviews are a wash because the winning team will say how great they are, the losing team will bitch about why they didn't win, anyone who crashed will see the incident as 100% someone else's fault despite the reality of the situation and there's just no "oh well, that's motor racing, we're all here for the love of the sport" passion any more

I'm just watching from the 5 min to go (or maybe 8 mins including the gridwalk) and post race I'm rushing off to watch another series starting if possible. Feels so much less.....toxic ;)

As someone that has relied on dodgy internet streams for nearly the last 20 years, all I can say is, what is this post race stuff you speak of? I thought as soon as the flag falls the coverage finishes, or well more accurately, freezes lol.

Well Gene is a convicted felon, so, you know.......

I have said in the past on this site, that I have my suspicions that Haas are actually in F1 for money laundering purposes (I am being very serious here). It is the only thing that makes financial sense for the team still being around. They can't be selling THAT many CNC machines.

I always knew we'd lose a team or two before we ever got anyone else joining, 20 will probably be forever the maximum number we'll see for a long time and maybe we'll be looking back on the days with 20 cars and thinking how lucky we were back then in the "golden era" :o

it'll be good to compare how Netflix handles facts that they cannot ask to be fabricated

I feel it will be mostly drama with only snippets of car racing done with CGI and archival footage bits. At least Rush tried to recreate that old F1 atmosphere by filming real cars at Cadwell Park and Brands Hatch.
But definitely interesting production. Who's going to play Balestre? Or Ron Dennis?

They should only make biopics about figures I don’t know about.

How dare they make a thing I know a lot about and will definitely get parts of it wrong because what I like is actually boring and can be a bit shit and needs to be dramatised to appeal to a wider audience.

When Max has won his 10th championship, they definitely have to make a biopic on Robert Doornbos.

I don't have high hopes. They can't make it as bad as Bohemian Rhapsody can they?
