Did we hear 10 seconds for Perez?

Some woman's voice came over and said that yeah but the question is, who even is she? lol

It seemed a TV countdown and was 10 seconds until Checo was to be handed the mic and talk on TV. Probably what all the TV production guys listen to so they know when to change cameras etc.

I know even NASCAR have done this now, and I know there was Brazil 2003, but I don't see F1 in the Liberty Era changing a result after the podium ceremony and all the post race headlines being written

5 seconds maximum, if a penalty at all

I suspect it'll probably be a fine and/or reprimand at the most.

I can understand the rule when drivers would back off behind the SC to create a gap for the team to service both cars in the pits. But I can't see what Checo would have gained from staying too far back here? He drove a great race. Would suck if he lost it in this way.

None of this would be an issue if everybody just went on green, like it makes sense.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Man, Leclerc is going to be kicking himself for not being able to keep the gap to 5 sec. Dude was slipping and sliding all over the place, burning up his rubber, trying to get by Perez initially.

shows how politically weak is Ferrari nowadays, if there was a Ross Brawn back there it'd be a complete DSQ for Perez

I thought it was a nice race. I saw people make mistakes! Some could continue, some couldn´t, and it certainly mixed up the results. I saw crashes, engines breaking down, all the participating world champions were in trouble.

Mercedes thought they had a chance of winning, instead they go home with 2 points which made it their worst weekend since azerbaidjan last year.

So Perez was warned by the stewards twice to keep within 10 car lengths, and got the penalty for third infringement. Don't do it again....oh Ok, THIS time I really mean it, don't do it again....Oh you have done it AGAIN? Here is the most lenient punishment we can give you that doesn't actually punish you. How very very convenient.

And Christian Horner expertly deflecting to try and sow doubt into the stewards, they are trying to penalize him for telling the safety car to speed up. He knew full well what they were investigating him for.

It didn't happen here, but maybe they don't want the leader to slow down the field which can reduce gaps faster and disadvantage someone who had a gap before pitting?

I think the general idea is to have the pace car dictate the pace, not a given driver, for fairness purposes. Like most rules, plenty of cases where it doesn't give an advantage not to follow them, but they still have to be abided by and applied indiscriminately.

I am still so glad this didn't shift the result because that would have ruined an amazing race

and now for some interesting post race stats:

-4th victory for Sergio Pérez
.now has twice the number from the other Mexican winner (Pedro Rodríguez);
.his 3rd victory with Red Bull, only won for the outfit on street tracks (Baku, Monaco and now Singapore);
.his first victory leading all the laps;
.also won all the races this year that ended on time limit.

-800th GP for Williams (only behind Ferrari and McLaren)

-351st start for Fernando Alonso, out of 354 GP entered (breaks Kimi Raikkonen record estabilished at the Nürbürgring in 2020)
.also holds the record longest interval between first and last race (21 years, 6 months and 28 days and increasing)
.most laps raced (18.908 and increasing)
.most km raced (94.493)
.currently seats as the 94th oldest driver on the grid (needs to win a race in 12 years to beat the oldest winner record and start a GP in 14 years to beat Louis Chiron record, perhaps the oldest records still standing in F1)
