Is Binotto being willfully ignorant or does he think this explanation will avoid the bosses holding him responsible?

He's probably just trying to hold on to his job until he manages to be put in charge of the LMP program.

No way you can screw it up that bad with strategy in a 24-hour race.

Binotto in his best Barney Stinson impression: challenge. Accepted.

I was disappointed by the pace Sainz had on his soft tyres in the last stint. I expected him to do qualifying laps, get fastest laps, and storm to the podium but none of that. Instead it was Hamilton who did all that.

and now for some bonus stats

-worst grid position to win for Max Verstappen (before that was 2 4th place grid starts to win: Silverstone 2020 [70th anniversary GP] and Jeddah 2020)

-only the 3rd time a driver starts 10th or lower to win at Hungaroring (37 races, the other two were Button 2006 [started 14th] and Mansell 1989 [started 12th]) and 4th time that a winner started worse than 4th (Ocon last year started on 8th position)

-Russell's pole position marks the 11th straight season for at least one race with a Mercedes on pole

Awesome race, enjoyed it much more the second watch. As I was very frustrated by the lack of rain and no battle for the lead at the start of the first run that I just lost interest. This time, paying attention to Max race and all others. It was a blast.

First race that I watch a second time right afterwards since I stopped doing it in 2002.
