Ferrari is now closer to Mercedes than to Red Bull at the Constructors championship. LMAO

This joke of a team has to end. It is a waste of F1's money. Screw that historic team bonus if it is to be this shitshow!

What's that now, the 3rd gifted win of the season for Verstappen? He's got one hand firmly on the WDC trophy. That ought to have been a straightforward P1 and P4 for Ferrari but they cost themselves again with dodgy reliability and questionable strategy. Leclerc and Sainz are getting a first hand look at the kind of shit Vettel and Raikkonen had to deal with during their tenure with the team. Same things never change...

Actually , the track itself is not that bad. Some nice fights today. But those white red lines are horrible, hurts the eyes.

proper runoffs could give this track a bit more character, but if I was in the area in a hot summer day, I'd rather stay in the beach drinking beer

now for some stats after one more race

-Lewis Hamilton is the 6th driver to reach the 300th GP start, also the first to finish on the podium on this very special occasion, the others were:
Rubens Barrichello - Singapore 2010 for Williams Cosworth, finished 6th
Michael Schumacher - Italy 2012 for Mercedes, finished 6th
Jenson Button - Malaysia 2016 for McLaren Honda, finished 9th
Fernando Alonso - Austria 2018 for McLaren Renault, finished 8th
Kimi Raikkonen - France 2019 for Alfa Romeo, finished 7th

one other observation is that after reaching the 300th GP start, the first 5 drivers to do it failed to win again (yet Alonso and Hamilton are still active and able to win)

-Max Verstappen equalized 3 time world champion Jackie Stewart in number of victories, once a record that stood for almost 14 years
Jackie was also older than Max when he recorded his 1st F1 win (was already 26 while Max is yet to complete 25)

-Max Verstappen is also the 3rd driver in Paul Ricard to start 2nd and win the race (the others were Mario Andretti in 1978 and Nigel Mansell in 1986, the latter on the short circuit)

After today's race, one thing is clear. Leclerc makes way to many mistakes. Ferrari does their best to ruin their drivers races anyway, so i don't know if this is because of the car, the pressure from the team or whatever. Not a fan of Max, but he's cockiness is rightfully earned sometimes.

Perez wasn´t asleep when the VSC ended, there was a problem with the race directions hardware. VSC did not end when indicated but took longer, and drivers were not informed.

I did think the VSC ending graphic was on screen for a LONG time, but just assumed it was a bug with the TV graphics

Either way, only one driver ended up being affected by it, so fingers still point more towards him

This season has been filled with mechanical and technical issues up and down the field and with race control related things.

Something definitely went wrong. It looked like the VSC was ending earlier in the lap because they started racing at the chicane. Then, Perez took off and had to slow down later. Strange.

As much as I think it sucks for the championship with Charles binning it often, Ferrari breaking down and then imploding on strategy, I kinda secretly like it for the randomness and old school feel of it. You don't actually know if they will make it all the way through a race. Chuck in some random Red Bull retirements as well and you have something that breaks the predictability of reliability of pretty much the past decade.

Sucks for the championship, but good for the engagement.

If Red Bull starts doing the same thing, fantastic. As it is, it kinda just feels like what Ferrari and its drivers have been doing since 2015.

RBR was doing it at the beginning but actually turned it around.

I also like the randomness of it. So early 90s. But the Verstappen fan in me also would like a season where he just wins the title purely on merit.

2021 will always be tarnished because some people will continue to foam at the mouth and scream it was stolen and gifted. 2022 will be the title he got gifted by Ferrari's incompetence.

This happens with every talented driver in history: either it's a close title and you'll have people nitpicking on the lucky/unlucky details during the championship, or it's a landslide and then it's either the superior car or others being incompetent.

Regarding the VSC: I don't understand why they let drivers manage the Delta manually. It should be a system like WEC where everyone is speed-limited to a given speed. 80kph in WEC but could be higher for those precious little F1 to manage temp in tyres/brakes/engine.

It also defeats the safety purpose of a VSC. Technically, nothing prevents a driver from being in the delta, but still picking up race speed in a given corner (to catch up or whatever), and bury himself into a marshall or a recovery vehicle.

Just watched the post-race press conference and I think that's the most relaxed, candid/casual, humorous I've seen Lewis in an official interview, was actually quite enjoyable hearing him. I think with this being the first time in a while out of the title fight has allowed him to be a lot more candid rather than guarded and give us the PR/political spin on things.

Remember the 2017 and 2018 title fights that now are looked back upon by mercedes dominance just because Ferrari, while possibly having the quicker package early on (definitely in a straight line anyway, and we all know why now :whistling: ) completely fell apart in the final third of the season, this season too might be seen as a red bull walkover and the beginning of the Max Verstappen era even though those of us who actually lived through it will be pointing out that Ferrari were there or there abouts and giving them a run for their money,....for a bit anyway

Red Bull have the better technical package for the race, are much better operationally/strategically have much better reliability and their drivers make far fewer mistakes

Ferrari have.....one lap pace for qualifying and potentially an advantage at higher downforce tracks that their other issues never let them capitalise on. That's it really.
Mercedes might steal 2nd off them in the constructors even though they're 3/4 of a second to a second slower at some races.
That says it all really
